About The Position

APTIM is seeking a Junior Geologist/Environmental Scientist/Engineer to conduct environmental site investigations and remedial actions. This position requires the ability to conduct field work, desktop analysis and reporting, occasional overnight travel, and application of knowledge and skills to a wide range of standard and nonstandard situations.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Geology, Environmental Science, Engineering, Biology, Hydrology, or related field required.
  • 0-5 years of experience participating in various scopes associated with environmental site assessment and technical report preparation.
  • Must have a valid Driver's License.
  • Strong written and oral communication skills.
  • Ability to travel as needed with occasional overnight stays.
  • Ability to work outdoors in inclement weather.
  • Must pass an OSHA HAZWOPER physical and respirator function test.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities and deadlines.
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Office suite, scientific computer programs.

Responsibilities

  • Conducts environmental site investigations and remedial actions.
  • Conducts field work, desktop analysis and reporting.
  • Installs environmental soil borings and monitoring wells.
  • Collects and documents soil and groundwater samples for laboratory analysis.
  • Performs Phase I and Phase II Environmental Site Assessments.
  • Handles environmental permitting.
  • Conducts stormwater compliance inspections and reporting.
  • Completes environmental compliance inspection and support activities.
  • Gains working knowledge of Federal, State, and local environmental regulations.
  • If applying as an engineer, may include remedial design and remedial action construction assignments under the supervision of a Project Engineer.
  • Provides technical support to clients in environmental site characterization, monitoring, permitting, regulatory reporting, Phase I and Phase II due diligence, and municipal and commercial construction.
  • Collects and interprets soil, groundwater, surface water, and air sample analytical data.
  • Maintains project schedule and budgetary goals, and supervises contractors.
  • Conducts work independently or as part of a project team and adjusts to rapidly changing site conditions or client requirements.
  • Adheres to established health and safety policies and procedures and executes work in a safe and conscientious manner.
  • Conducts Phase I Environmental Site Assessments and Phase II Environmental Site Investigations in accordance with ASTM Standards and client requirements.
  • Conducts site inspections for NPDES permit and erosion control plan compliance.
  • Identifies pollution sources.
  • Maps project sites and drainage areas using GPS/GIS.
  • Supports environmental permitting and permit compliance projects.
  • Drafts technical documents for regulatory agencies and private clients.
  • Understands technical concepts, evaluation results, plans, reports, and ensures conformance to applicable technical standards as well as company policies and procedures.
  • Manages schedule and balances multiple priorities to meet project targets and deadlines.
  • Utilizes best practices and knowledge of internal and external business systems to improve products or services.
  • May include overlap with APTIM’s industrial hygiene group including inspections, assessment and sampling for asbestos, lead-based paint and other material concerns.
  • If applying as an engineer, responsibilities may also include remedial design and remedial action construction assignments under the supervision of a Project Engineer.
