Requirements

• A bachelor’s degree in an environmental, biological, atmospheric, chemical, health, nuclear or physical science field, an engineering field, a geography/geosciences field, a natural resources field, or in a statistics or quantitative methods field; OR A master’s degree or doctorate in an environmental, biological, atmospheric, chemical, health, nuclear or physical science field, an engineering field, a geography/geosciences field, a natural resources field, or in a statistics or quantitative methods field.

Responsibilities

• Perform inspections, collect environmental samples, including ambient water sites, conduct environmental monitoring and respond to complaints and environmental incidents in the surrounding parishes in which the regional office service.
• Assist with preparation and participate in the inspections of major and minor facilities and/or sources within an assigned region for one or more of the following media: air, water, hazardous and solid waste, waste tire generators and processors, asbestos and lead.
• Perform environmental monitoring to collect ambient air and water data.
• Participate in special inspections or sampling projects on a statewide basis.
• Obtain necessary experience and skills to perform inspections and collect environmental data related to compliance issues within a region with guidance from senior Environmental Scientists (mentors), Supervisors and ES Staff.
