About The Position

The Louisiana Department of Environmental Quality’s (LDEQ) mission is to provide service to the people of Louisiana through comprehensive environmental protection in order to promote and protect health, safety, and welfare. The Enforcement Division is looking for dedicated Environmental Scientists to join our Air Enforcement Section. In this role, you will not just sit behind a desk—you will be the frontline shield protecting our state's environment and public health.

Requirements

  • A bachelor’s degree in an environmental, biological, atmospheric, chemical, health, nuclear or physical science field, an engineering field, a geography/geosciences field, a natural resources field, or in a statistics or quantitative methods field; OR A master’s degree or doctorate in an environmental, biological, atmospheric, chemical, health, nuclear or physical science field, an engineering field, a geography/geosciences field, a natural resources field, or in a statistics or quantitative methods field.

Responsibilities

  • Evaluate data and inspection reports to identify state and federal violations.
  • Initiate formal and informal administrative enforcement actions against non-compliant facilities.
  • Monitor facility compliance post-issuance and escalate enforcement actions when necessary.
  • Calculate penalty assessments and financial benefits of non-compliance per policies.
  • Conduct field inspections and investigations to build solid enforcement cases.
