About The Position

The Department of Environmental Quality/Office of Environmental Compliance has two vacancies. The Louisiana Department of Environmental Quality’s (LDEQ) mission is to provide service to the people of Louisiana through comprehensive environmental protection in order to promote and protect health, safety and welfare. The Louisiana Department of Environmental Quality is seeking a highly skilled Environmental Scientist 1/2/3 to join the Water Enforcement Section. This role is ideal for professionals ready to tackle complex enforcement cases, uphold environmental laws, and make a measurable impact across the state. Requirements

  • A bachelor’s degree in an environmental, biological, atmospheric, chemical, health, nuclear or physical science field, an engineering field, a geography/geosciences field, a natural resources field, or in a statistics or quantitative methods field; OR A master’s degree or doctorate in an environmental, biological, atmospheric, chemical, health, nuclear or physical science field, an engineering field, a geography/geosciences field, a natural resources field, or in a statistics or quantitative methods field.

Responsibilities

  • Review inspection reports, permit data, and referrals to identify violations of environmental regulations.
  • Draft and issue enforcement actions; monitor compliance and escalate cases as needed.
  • Prepare technical reports, compliance histories, and maintain detailed case documentation.
  • Collaborate with internal teams, legal staff, and external stakeholders to resolve enforcement matters.
  • Represent the agency at meetings, inspections, and public events to communicate enforcement policies.
