About The Position

This is professional work performing research for technical projects in the environmental field, preparing technical publications, and assisting in the design and performance of technical projects. The role involves assisting in the development and implementation of coastal habitat restoration and monitoring projects, managing and documenting data associated with these efforts, providing logistical and operational support, and coordinating and communicating with internal divisions and external partners. Participation in stakeholder meetings and support for outreach activities are also key components of the position.

Requirements

  • Environmental Scientist III requires a bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university in biology, limnology, chemistry, botany, environmental science or related field and four years professional experience in the environmental field.
  • Environmental Scientist IV requires a bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university in biology, limnology, chemistry, botany, environmental science or related field and six years professional experience in the environmental field.
  • Professional experience in environmental protection or research can substitute on a year-for-year basis for the required college education.
  • Valid State of Florida Driver’s License.

Nice To Haves

  • Master's degree from an accredited college or university in biology, limnology, chemistry, botany, environmental science, or related field may substitute for one year of the required experience (for ES III and IV).
  • Doctorate from an accredited college or university in biology, limnology, chemistry, botany, environmental science, or related field can substitute for two years of the experience described above (for ES III and IV).
  • Knowledge of basic principles of coastal wetland ecology, shoreline restoration and restoration ecology.
  • Knowledge of environmental field sampling and monitoring methods.
  • Knowledge of plant identification.
  • Knowledge of boat trailering and operation.
  • Knowledge of data management and statistical analysis.
  • Familiarity with statistical programming platforms.
  • Knowledge of safe boat trailering and operation.
  • Skilled in spatial data analysis with ArcGIS Pro.
  • Skilled in data entry and organization.
  • Skilled in basic statistical analysis and data visualization.
  • Skilled in environmental resource permitting.
  • Skilled in project management.
  • Skilled in verbal and written communication.
