About The Position

Performs professional and technical duties in the office and field related to asbestos, noise, open burn and similar environmental investigations, while also supporting enforcement and budget/finance/grant management needs.

Requirements

  • A Bachelor's degree in a Natural Science
  • Two or more years of experience in environmental protection or control, or environmental laboratory analysis
  • Possession of a valid Driver's License
  • Considerable knowledge of environmental pollutants’ sampling and testing.
  • Working knowledge of Federal, State, and local environmental control and mitigation laws and regulations related to air quality, including asbestos, open burn and noise regulations.
  • Ability to use a computer and related software, including proficiency in Microsoft Excel and Word.
  • Ability to conduct and interpret test results.
  • Ability to use and maintain noise monitoring equipment.
  • Ability to work effectively with others.
  • Ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing.

Responsibilities

  • Interacts with residents to document and investigate complaints in all areas of the Air Citizen Response Section, including administration of EPC’s Noise Rule (Chapter 1-10).
  • Supports enforcement activities through creation of legal documents and subsequent case management.
  • Assists in assessment, tracking and management of the Division’s budget/finance, grants and contracts.
  • Assists in collection and analysis of noise data from the field, including occasional off-hours monitoring needs.
  • Reviews demolition/renovation notifications related to potential asbestos impacts and conducts inspections of sites associated with these activities.
  • Reviews open burn authorization applications, conducts complaint investigations, and performs corresponding field inspections.
  • Uses aerial photographs and GIS for research and investigation of environmental projects.
  • Prepares and submits detailed reports of activities.
  • Represents the agency as part of community outreach.
  • Performs other related duties as required.
