About The Position

This job description reflects potential openings for the Spring 2027 Co-op/Internship Session (January-April/May). This is a general job description and represents multiple openings in various departments. Honda offers both single and multi-semester co-ops and internships. College students must apply to the requisition pertaining to their major and semester of interest. Sponsorship for employment visa status for these positions is unavailable. Applicants requiring sponsorship for employment visa status now or in the future (e.g., F-1 CPT/OPT, H-1B, TN, etc.) will not be considered. The descriptions below reflect potential environments and duties within our various Environmental, Safety, and Sustainability Co-op/Intern positions that we offer. Work environments and projects may include but are not limited to: Environmental Health & Safety (EH&S) and Manufacturing Safety, Environmental Compliance and Environmental Engineering Support, Sustainability & Carbon Neutral Initiatives, and Resource Circularity and Sustainable Manufacturing.

Requirements

  • Legally authorized to work in the U.S. without sponsorship
  • Minimum 2.5 Cumulative GPA or higher (You will be required to provide your current transcript)
  • Class status- Sophomore (by credit hour) or above
  • Availability to work a minimum of 10 weeks at 40 hours per week
  • Enrollment in a Bachelors degree or Master's degree program studying Environmental Science, Occupational Health & Safety, Industrial Hygiene, Chemical Engineering, or related field
  • Valid U.S. Driver's License (exceptions considered on a case-by-case basis)
  • Ability to secure own transportation to and from work each day
  • Public transportation and ride share services are limited in some of our locations. Co-ops are responsible for securing their own transportation to and from work each day and must have a reliable plan for transportation in order to be eligible for a position. Regular in-person attendance is required, and transportation issues will not be excused.

Responsibilities

  • Support safety compliance activities related to Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA), National Fire Protection Association (NFPA), and American National Standards Institute (ANSI) regulatory requirements
  • Conduct confined space evaluations, maintain confined space inventories, and support safety audits
  • Assist with hazard identification and mitigation efforts, including arc flash, fall hazard, and ergonomic analyses
  • Support safety compliance implementation, data tracking, and auditing activities
  • Assist with plant safety programs, including respiratory protection, PPE, lead compliance, hearing conservation, and confined space programs
  • Plan, collect, process, and communicate industrial hygiene samples (air, noise, breathing air)
  • Schedule and track associate respiratory and audiometric testing
  • Support safety training development and program documentation
  • Assist with air compliance testing and Title V Air Permit updates
  • Prepare and submit Hazardous Chemical Inventory reports for state and EPA agencies
  • Track chemical usage, hazardous waste generation, and waste samples/profiles
  • Organize and maintain Material Safety Data Sheets (MSDS) documentation
  • Support ISO documentation evaluation, updates, and compliance activities
  • Complete and submit State Emergency Response Commission (SERC) reports and provide improvement recommendations
  • Assist with ergonomic evaluations and documentation in tracking systems
  • Support evaluations of new model processes and equipment to minimize environmental and ergonomic risks
  • Support special projects, including new model launches and process modifications
  • Support the development and implementation of carbon accounting and carbon footprint reduction strategies
  • Assist with lifecycle assessments (LCA) to evaluate environmental impacts of products and services
  • Research current and emerging carbon‑neutral technologies and sustainability best practices
  • Support sustainability data analysis and reporting to inform environmental strategy
  • Support circular economic initiatives such as recycling programs and material repurposing efforts
  • Research sustainable materials management and waste reduction practices
  • Collaborate with cross‑functional teams to improve resource efficiency and sustainability in manufacturing processes
