About The Position

Auburn University is seeking an Environmental Protection Specialist to provide professional expertise for a variety of environmental compliance services for Fort Benning, Georgia. This role specializes in Hazardous Waste Management, Non-RCRA waste, Clean Water Act Compliance, Clean Air Act compliance, and Storage Tank Management.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent + 4 years of experience OR Associate's degree + 2 years of experience OR Bachelor's degree (for Level I)
  • High school diploma or equivalent + 6 years of experience OR Associate's degree + 4 years of experience OR Bachelor's degree + 2 years of experience (for Level II)
  • High school diploma or equivalent + 8 years of experience OR Associate's degree + 6 years of experience OR Bachelor's degree + 4 years of experience (for Level III)
  • Experience in developing and administering environmental compliance programs such as hazardous waste, clean water, clean air, or storage tank management.

Responsibilities

  • Plans, prepares, coordinates, and facilitates implementation of Fort Benning Phase II NPDES Stormwater Permit.
  • Performs on-going inspections and provides technical assistance for erosion and sedimentation control practices at Fort Benning construction sites.
  • Provides environmental consultation and support to assist units, government branches, and/or federal contractors with compliance regarding state, federal and DOD environmental regulations and guidelines, including review of RECs / 144Rs.
  • Plans, prepares, and coordinates implementation of the Fort Benning Surface Mining Permit.
  • Performs on-going inspections and provides technical assistance for erosion and sedimentation control practices at Fort Benning Surface Mining Permitted borrow areas.
  • Participates in the chemical and/or hazardous materials emergency response team.
  • Assists with spill cleanup, reports spills to proper points of contact, and files spill reports both internally and externally.
  • Assists with and participates in planning and organizing community outreach and engagement.
  • Conducts field surveys to assess the condition of stormwater infrastructure.
  • Utilizes GIS software to map and analyze data.
  • Assists in the development and implementation of MS4 compliance strategies.
  • Assists with the preparation of reports, database management, and presentations.
  • Participates in team meetings and project discussions.
  • Designs, conducts, and coordinates training and education in areas of specialization.
  • Performs all other assigned duties.
