This position serves as a regional expert for waste management programs and supports inspections, permit reviews, and remediation activities. Through your work, you will help to ensure that facilities follow regulations, maintain safe operations, and provide accurate information to the department.

Requirements

  • One year of experience as a journey-level specialist in a waste management program; or Two years of experience in environmental protection and a bachelor's degree with major course work in biology, chemistry, or in a field closely related to environmental protection.
  • A master's degree with major course work in any of the fields closely related to environmental protection may be substituted for one year of the required experience; or Any equivalent combination of experience and training which affords the applicant the required knowledges and abilities.
  • Possession of a valid motor vehicle operator's license as issued by the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania.
  • Meet the PA residency requirement.

Responsibilities

  • Conduct field inspections for permitted waste facilities and evaluate compliance with regulations
  • Assist with the review of permits, financial assurance documents, and compliance histories
  • Manage cleanup activities funded through abatement programs and review technical project documents
  • Maintain inspection and enforcement information in department systems to ensure accuracy
  • Support training efforts and share knowledge to help new staff understand program requirements
  • Review operations and documentation to ensure facilities follow established policies and procedures

Benefits

  • Selected candidates who are new to employment with the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania will begin employment at the starting annual salary of $60,538.00 (before taxes).
