About The Position

Reporting to the Senior Environmental Protection Officer, the Environmental Protection Officer plans, administers, and maintains approved programs and projects to ensure that the environmental conservation objectives of the Department are maintained and enhanced. The efforts of this officer will ensure that a safe and healthy environment is maintained in the Region. The role of the Environmental Protection Officer is to ensure the people of Nunavut live in an environment which is free of major pollutants and that the fish and wildlife populations are sustainable and are safe to consume in accordance with traditional practices. The Environmental Protection Officer is responsible for conducting environmental inspections, investigations, and monitoring compliance of air, water, and land pollution in accordance with environmental statutes, regulations, and the Department of Environment's Operations Manual.

Requirements

  • Recognized college diploma in Environmental Technology
  • One (1) year of relevant experience
  • Valid Class 5 Driver’s License
  • Clear Criminal Record Check upon application submission

Nice To Haves

  • Ability to speak Inuktitut
  • Fluency in more than one of Nunavut’s official languages
  • Knowledge of Inuit communities, culture, land, Inuit Qaujimajatuqangit
  • Knowledge of Inuktut
  • Experience working in a northern cross-cultural environment
