NASA is hiring Environmental Protection Specialists for positions across various organizations, centers, locations, and grade levels. This announcement covers the GS-0028 series at the GS-11, GS-12, and GS-13 levels. The duties described are for the highest advertised grade; duties at lower grades have more limited scope, independence, and complexity, consistent with the selected grade. The specialist implements environmental risk-management systems to support ongoing compliance with environmental laws, regulations, and permits. The role manages environmental programs for assigned center facilities and installations, including air and water quality, hazardous materials and waste, petroleum, oils and lubricants, and spill prevention. It also supports computer systems used to manage air, petroleum, or waste programs; participates in environmental audits and inspections; monitors facilities and operations for compliance; evaluates program effectiveness; recommends program changes; and prepares plans, reports, and other documentation for federal or state agencies. Duty location is determined upon selection. The position is not designated as remote, although work from an approved duty location may be authorized based on mission needs, supervisory approval, and agency policy. Applicants must meet the qualifications by the announcement closing date and submit a complete application by 11:59 PM ET on October 27, 2026. A pre-employment background investigation or higher-level clearance is required; specific clearance, financial disclosure, drug testing, and travel requirements may vary by duty location and NASA center. A one-year probationary period may be required.
