About The Position

We're seeking an Environmental Protection Officer with a preference for forestry experience or knowledge to join our team. In this role, you'll monitor resource consents and permitted activities across a wide range of industries and environmental settings. While forestry will be an important area of focus, you'll also be involved in other environmental compliance work, ensuring activities are undertaken in accordance with regulatory requirements. If you're naturally inquisitive, enjoy investigating, and have a keen eye for detail, you're a great fit for this job. We need someone who can inform and educate landowners and businesses on the benefits and requirements of compliance. Strong communication and relationship-building skills are a must, as you'll be working closely with a range of stakeholders to achieve positive environmental outcomes. In this role, you'll also be skilled at developing strategies for enforcement, including understanding and investigating complaints objectively and impartially, along with preparing and presenting evidence to support Council functions or Court proceedings. Requirements

  • Previous experience in forestry, environmental protection, enforcement, or similar type role.
  • Proven ability to interpret key policies, legislation, and procedures.
  • Sound judgment and decision-making skills.
  • Investigative mind.
  • Aptitude for dealing with compliance issues that can at times be complex and contentious.
  • Ability to provide high-level customer service.
  • Engage with internal and external stakeholders, from all walks of life.
  • Exceptional communication skills.
  • Comfortable working collaboratively.
  • Conflict resolution skills to navigate occasional difficult situations.

Nice To Haves

  • Previous experience in forestry.
  • Tertiary qualifications in forestry, resource management, environmental science, compliance or similar.
