We are seeking an exceptionally talented and enthusiastic individual for an Environmental Project Manager position within our Kansas City (Overland Park) Natural Resources team. The location of this position is flexible, and candidates will be able to work out of Stantec’s Overland Park, Kansas office. We are seeking a motivated individual to support project teams across a diverse portfolio of energy and infrastructure markets. Ideal candidates will have 5-10 years of experience managing environmental projects. Work with existing developers in either Nebraska, Kansas, Missouri, Oklahoma, or Illinois is a plus. This is a full-time (40-hour work week) position.

Requirements

  • Demonstrated experience with various state agencies and federal agencies, including state Departments of Natural Resources, Departments of Transportation, state Public Service Commissions, US Forest Service, US Fish and Wildlife Service, and US Army Corps of Engineers.
  • Experience in management and implementation of complex projects.
  • Ability to work well under pressure and to prioritize and balance sometimes heavy workloads to achieve goals while keeping up with a highly mobile and changing environment.
  • Demonstrated experience with performing or managing staff performing wetland and stream delineation and assessments, vegetation inventories, wildlife surveys and habitat assessments, sound and glare modeling, endangered resource reviews, vegetation management plan development, GPS data collection and mapping support (including ArcGIS online mapping and data collection applications).
  • Demonstrated ability to work well with others, manage large utility-scale projects, and market existing and new clients.
  • Experience in balancing and organizing multiple projects, reviewing, documenting project progress, developing communication plans, and reviewing and updating scope and progress for projects.
  • Ability to validate and accurately analyze information and make sound decisions that have considerable business impact.
  • Demonstrated ability to interface effectively and collaborate with clients, peers, management, and vendors to successfully meet shifting needs.
  • Ability to motivate self and others to overcome obstacles and achieve goals.
  • Must have strong verbal and written communication skills and be client-focused to understand and appropriately respond to clients’ business needs.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Excel, Word, and PowerPoint.
  • Must demonstrate effective resource planning, results delivery, and staying current with relevant technology and innovation.
  • Strong ethics, influence & negotiation, leadership, ability to effectively manage stress, and engage in continuous learning.
  • Bachelor’s degree in an environmental or natural resource-related field.
  • Ten years or more of experience in consulting, or consulting-adjacent roles supporting clients across diverse industries and utilities and energy sectors.

Nice To Haves

  • Master’s degree preferred.
  • Working knowledge of GIS and SharePoint filing systems is a plus.

Responsibilities

  • Grow and assist in leading our Great Lakes Environmental Services Program.
  • Provide leadership and project management on a wide variety of environmental planning and permitting projects for energy, government, and private sector clients throughout the US, with particular focus on Kansas, Missouri, Nebraska, Oklahoma, and the Midwest.
  • Participate in marketing and business development activities within Stantec’s Great Lakes Utilities and Energy Sectors.
  • Assist with sustaining and growing regional and national clients across a diverse range of energy, infrastructure, and transportation markets.
  • Within the Midwest, identify environmental permitting projects, programs and opportunities while leveraging Stantec relationships for environmental services with existing federal, state, and private sector clients.
  • Assist with building, growing, and developing a team of high performers, recruit and retain specialist staff within the practice.
  • Develop in-house sector expertise, best practices, and research and development initiatives.
  • Actively participate in regional and national industry groups to advance the Stantec brand.
