Requirements

  • BS in Physical Sciences, Geology, Chemistry, Biological Sciences, Engineering or Environmental Sciences, with 4-7 years of relevant working experience in the environmental field.
  • Working knowledge of utility systems and regulatory background in environmental media (water, air, UST, SPCC, ecological) disciplines.
  • Working knowledge of regulatory requirements in hazardous materials and chemical control.
  • Strong people skills and ability to thrive in a team environment is essential, along with innovation, creativity, and initiative.
  • Strong technical writing, oral communication, and negotiating skills.
  • Strong presentation skills.
  • Knowledge of local, state and federal environmental regulations and programs including waste/air/water regulations, associated technical/policy issues and of the regulatory development process.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of computer software programs.
  • Ability to meet Company driving standards, including a valid driver's license.
  • Field work is required for the position.
  • In lieu of degree, 6-9 years of relevant experience.

Nice To Haves

  • Master's Degree in an Environmental discipline including Physical Sciences, Geology, Chemistry, Engineering, or Environmental Sciences.

Responsibilities

  • Act as a subject matter expert and program owner of environmental management areas such as avian, wildlife, water, air, hazardous and non-hazardous waste, PCB management, USDOT, spill prevention, industrial services, recycling, and pollution prevention.
  • Evaluate assigned environmental program performance and initiate changes towards continuous improvement.
  • Provide support to Exelon management and field professionals in developing, planning, evaluating, and implementing compliance/pollution prevention/lifecycle management programs that reduce environmental liability and minimize financial impact.
  • Manage, coordinate, direct, and monitor field activities of contractors to assure adherence to contract requirements and all applicable regulatory requirements.
  • Oversee support personnel, consultants, and contract vendors as needed to meet business objectives.
  • Establish a consistent environmental services platform using established or innovative environmental strategies; adhere to the Environmental Management System; and develop systems or processes as necessary to meet emerging business needs.
  • Develop and direct environmental program and regulatory requirements for avian, wildlife, air, water, RCRA, UST, SPCC, EPCRA/SARA, and ecological media compliance activities as assigned.
  • Serve as subject matter expert for the company and participate on project teams to support business activities and initiatives.
  • Prepare written materials, such as environmental standards, employee reminders, environmental alerts, permit guides, and training materials for environmental guidance to line organization staff.
  • Lead or advise other environmental staff on activities such as environmental permitting, environmental issue management, auditing, and program development.
  • Develop and implement procedures/protocols to meet compliance elements in all assigned environmental programs, improving efficiencies using innovative solutions, identifying gaps, and developing and implementing cost-effective solutions that reduce environmental risk.
  • Assist with developing solutions to complex environmental issues and preparing reports and metrics on findings.
  • Serve as the technical expert in an area of responsibility.
  • Develop and maintain effective working relationships with regulatory agencies and other external stakeholder groups.
  • Engage with Operations by providing consultation and technical support, including analysis of impacts and development of compliance strategies that are cost-efficient and potentially minimize compliance obligations, improve competitive advantage as they relate to compliance with federal, state, and local environmental regulations.
  • Oversee consultants and associated budgets.
  • Assist with providing written comments and public testimony on regulatory proposals.
  • Direct environmental studies to satisfy permit and regulatory requirements as required.
  • Review and analyze legislative and regulatory developments for potential impacts on Company operations.
  • Establish processes and programs to monitor and track compliance performance, manage Environmental Programs according to budget.
  • Provide direction on existing and proposed technical environmental regulatory requirements.
  • Maintain the Environmental Management Information System for tracking metrics and warehousing the company's regulatory requirements and measuring compliance performance.
  • Actively participate in industry and regulatory groups and technical committees (i.e. USWAG, UWAG, IREG, BNTS, IEMA, NERC, ANJR) to gain and disseminate technical expertise and enhance personnel development as assigned.
  • Respond to environmental incidents, inform applicable Agencies, mobilize contractors, and oversee site remediation.
  • Participate in root cause evaluations of environmental incidents, develop solutions, and initiate preventative actions.

  • Annual salary will vary based on a candidate’s skills, qualifications, experience, and other factors: $92,000.00/Yr. – $126,500.00/Yr.
