About The Position

Michael Baker International is seeking a detail-oriented Environmental Planning Intern to work out of our Santa Ana, CA office. Candidates who are interested in applying for this internship should submit a technical writing sample. Our environmental planning professionals build strong client partnerships, working with local agencies, stakeholders, and members of the public on projects that trigger the California Environmental Quality Act (CEQA) and/or the National Environmental Policy Act (NEPA). At Michael Baker International, we focus on improving development projects through insightful environmental analysis and appropriate mitigation recommendations for more sustainable, convenient, equitable, healthful, efficient, and attractive places.

Requirements

• Currently enrolled as a part-time or full-time student in good academic standing at an accredited University, College or Technical School
• Working toward a Bachelor’s or Master’s Degree in an environmental-related discipline
• Possesses strong analytical skills, excellent writing and oral communication skills, and the ability to work independently and as part of a multi-disciplinary team
• Microsoft Office Suite
• Driver’s License and a reliable means of transportation
• Ability to work both remotely and in-person at local Santa Ana office
• Strong technical writing skills. Please submit a technical writing sample.

Nice To Haves

• Basic understanding of environmental regulations (e.g., CEQA/NEPA) preferred.
• Proficiency in GIS preferred.

Responsibilities

• Environmental report review and preparation in accordance with CEQA and NEPA requirements
• Conduct environmental impact analysis for a range of project types, including residential, commercial, industrial, mixed-use, and transportation/utility projects
• Field work, data gathering and research
