About The Position

Timmons Group is hiring Environmental interns for its Environmental Group in the Richmond, Virginia office for Summer 2027. The internship offers hands-on experience working with scientists and engineers on client projects. The position is expected to begin in May 2027 and pays $20 per hour. Compensation offers may depend on job-related factors such as internal equity, experience, skills, education, credentials, and role complexity.

Timmons Group is a full-service engineering and technology firm providing services in civil engineering, environmental work, economic development, GIS/geospatial technology, landscape architecture, and surveying. The company has 22 offices across the Mid-Atlantic, Southeast, and South Central United States.

Requirements

• Currently pursuing a degree in Environmental Science, Biology, Natural Resources, Ecology, Geology, or a related field.
• Comfortable working outdoors in varying weather and terrain.
• Strong attention to detail and clear written communication.
• High energy, creative, flexible, patient, and self-starting, with willingness to work at a dynamic pace.

Nice To Haves

• Familiarity with ArcGIS or similar software.
• Valid driver’s license preferred.

Responsibilities

• Assist with wetland and stream delineations, field surveys, and site assessments.
• Collect and record field data, including soil, vegetation, and water quality samples.
• Support permitting and regulatory documentation for local, state, and federal agencies.
• Use GIS and CAD tools to prepare maps, exhibits, and reports.
• Work alongside experienced scientists and engineers on real client projects.
