The Environmental, Health & Safety (EHS) Officer is a critical operational and strategic partner responsible for protecting Pioneer Human Services’ people, operations, and growth objectives through proactive risk management, process improvement, and data-driven safety leadership. This role goes beyond regulatory compliance to ensure that safety, environmental stewardship, and operational continuity are embedded into day-to-day operations and long-term business planning across manufacturing, distribution, and food service environments. The EHS Officer is accountable for designing and executing scalable EHS systems that reduce incidents, minimize operational disruption, and support workforce stability—key enablers of Pioneer’s growth and diversification strategy. The role requires independent ownership of planning, framework development, and execution, including drafting actionable project plans, leading cross-functional initiatives, and driving measurable outcomes. Success in this role is defined by visible reductions in risk, injuries, and associated costs; improved consistency and maturity of EHS practices across business units; and the ability to translate safety performance into operational reliability and financial sustainability in support of the organization’s long-term financial goals.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in EHS, Industrial Hygiene, Engineering, or related field, or equivalent experience.
  • Minimum 5 years of progressive EHS experience in complex operational environments.
  • Demonstrated experience with compliance, investigations, and safety program implementation.
  • Proficiency with EHS systems and Microsoft Office.
  • OSHA 30 certification
  • HAZWOPER 40 certification

Nice To Haves

  • Professional certification (CSP, ASP, CIH, or similar).
  • Experience supporting multi-site operations.
  • Demonstrated success in process improvement initiatives.
  • Experience quantifying safety-related ROI and financial impacts.

Responsibilities

  • Leads enterprise-wide identification, assessment, and mitigation of environmental, health, and safety risks.
  • Reviews Safety Committee Meetings, recommends, plans, and implements process improvements.
  • Conducts internal audits and coordinate external audits; implements process improvements as needed.
  • Disseminates pertinent safety information & changes to best practices; provides training as needed.
  • Leads efforts to control safety related costs and implements processes to reduce costs.
  • Creates and updates Job Hazard Analyses (JHAs) for all positions within Pioneer Enterprises.
  • Manage the respiratory protection program for Pioneer Industries.
  • Manage the lockout tag out procedures and compliance.
  • Manage machine guarding inspection and compliance.
  • Leads incident and near-miss investigations with root cause analysis and corrective action tracking.
  • Owns EHS data integrity, dashboards, and performance reporting.
  • Creates and provides role-specific safety training.
  • Maintains records related to Environmental, Safety, and health requirements for Pioneer Industries.
  • Manages the Pioneer Industries Storm water Pollution Prevention permit and all applicable reports.
  • Monitors the hazardous waste activities (Dangerous Waste Manifests, Shipments, Tier 2 reports).
  • Submits King County's Industrial Wastewater Discharge permit (Zero Discharge) and all applicable reporting.
  • Puget Sound Clean Air Agency (PSCAA) authorizations.
  • Tracks and provides safety related data to management.
  • Oversees and maintains current SDS documentation.
  • Independently draft frameworks, project plans, and implementation roadmaps.
  • Design and implement standardized EHS processes and operating procedures.
