About The Position

The Safety (EHS) Manager will be responsible for effectively managing all Safety, Health and Environmental (SH&E) activities for the entire facility and will drive improvement through utilization of the key principles of the Continuous Improvement Program, SMART (Streamlined Manufacturing Activities to Reduce Time and Cost). Position requires a person that can facilitate and drive results through leveraging strong interpersonal skills.

Requirements

  • Bachelors degree in engineering or equivalent experience in heavy manufacturing/ forging
  • 5+ years safety management experience in a manufacturing setting
  • Training in and previous experience utilizing LEAN, Six Sigma and Theories of Constraints tools and methodologies
  • Advanced problem solving, facilitation and project management skills
  • Excellent interpersonal, communication and presentation skills
  • Strong proficiency in Microsoft Office and SAP
  • Experience with Program Management in manufacturing environment
  • Highly motivated, self-directed, creative, innovative and people oriented
  • Demonstrated focus on program schedule commitments / cost awareness
  • Ability to read, analyze and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, or governmental regulations.
  • Ability to write reports, business correspondence and procedures manuals.
  • Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions form groups, of mangers, clients, customers and the general public.
  • Ability to apply advancement mathematical concepts such an exponents, logarithms, quadratic equations, and permutations.
  • Ability to apply mathematical operations to such tasks as frequency distribution, determination of test reliability and validity, analysis of variance, correlation techniques, sampling theory and factor analysis.
  • Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts and draw valid conclusions.
  • Ability to interpret an extensive variety of technical instructions in mathematical or diagram form and deal with several abstract and concrete variables.

Nice To Haves

  • Masters degree in engineering, operations management or business desirable
  • Experience in a union environment is a plus
  • Awareness of various quality systems and compliance is a plus
  • Maintenance / Facilities management experience desired
  • PE license, CQE, CSP or CHMM certifications desirable

Responsibilities

  • Manage programs that assure compliance with all federal, state and local SH&E regulations.
  • Partner with HR and Ops on the development and maintenance of programs, processes and procedures that assure compliance with SIFCOs safety standards.
  • Be an integral part of the plant leadership team which requires coordination and interaction with other department managers.
  • Partner with departments to drive safety projects to completion.
  • Take a hands-on approach to minimize hazards utilizing the Hierarchy of Controls.
  • Drive the safety-first culture and engage all employees.
  • Serve as site champion for the plant safety committee.
  • Works with supervisors and team leads to empower safety knowledge, discipline and compliance throughout the facility.
  • Lead incident investigations as needed and track corrective actions.
  • Minimize use of SH&E contractors and manage activities to ensure compliance.
  • Position the facilities for long-term success which includes contributing to the development of facility SH&E annual operating and strategic plans.
  • Manage all Property Protection systems and ensure regularly scheduled/required testing is completed annually, as well as manage and interact with annual Property Insurance inspectors.
  • Conduct required environmental, health and safety training for management and hourly employees.
  • Participate in the review of projects as required for compliance to SH&E standards.
  • Manage Process Hazard Analysis.
  • Prepare periodic internal and external safety and environmental reporting documents as required.
