About The Position

Responsible for developing and maintaining environmental, health, and safety standards and programs for employees, suppliers and visitors at a facility to reduce vulnerability to hazards and likelihood of mishaps and to comply with government regulations. Develops contingencies for dealing with emergency situations, conducts safety audits, and investigates accidents. Ensures employees working in the facility have appropriate personal protective equipment. Trains managers and employees to know and observe all EHS policies, procedures and protocols.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree in Occupational Safety Management or a similar field.
  • In-depth knowledge of OSHA and EPA standards required.
  • Minimum of five years's related experience in a safety leadership role or additional years of experience / additional qualifications that demonstrate ability to oversee safety protocols and lead training sessions.
  • General experience with OSHA Process Safety Management (PSM) Compliance is preferred.
  • Microsoft Office required.
  • U.S. Citizenship required.
  • Ability to obtain and maintain a government security clearance.

Nice To Haves

  • Certified Safety Professional (CSP) or similar credentials are preferred.
  • Experience with IoT devices and wearable sensors preferred.
  • Strong leadership, people management and development skills in an industrial environment (machine shop experience is preferred).
  • Preferred candidate would be credentialed as a Certified Safety Professional (CSP), or in the Comprehensive Practice of Industrial Hygiene by the American Board of Industrial Hygiene (or equivalent certification recognized by the International Occupational Hygiene Association National Accreditation Recognition Committee).
  • Demonstrated ability to handle multiple tasks and deadlines as well as manage change and work independently.
  • Networking, influence, and conflict resolution skills with strong focus on deliverables with excellent oral and written skills along with the ability to apply these in the regulatory, advocacy and public affairs culture.
  • Demonstrate ability to interact with operators, mechanics, and engineers to drive improvements in safety culture.
  • Real-time risk monitoring technology experience is preferred.
  • Active DoD security clearance at Top Secret/ SCI desirable.

Responsibilities

  • In coordination with Senior Management and EHS staff at other facilities, plans, develops, and implements site-specific safety policies, procedures, and protocols that provide for a safe and healthy workplace.
  • Promotes knowledge, attitudes, and practices that help to prevent occupational injuries, illnesses, and environmental harm.
  • Trains managers to know and enforce safety policies and procedures.
  • Trains managers further to respond with appropriate protocols to various types of emergencies, including electrical, mechanical and chemical accidents that may endanger employees or the environment.
  • Trains employees to know and observe safety policies and procedures and to understand disciplinary consequences of refusal to comply.
  • Trains employees further to maintain situational awareness at all times and to respond appropriately to various types of emergencies, including those enumerated above.
  • Conducts facility-wide safety audits to ensure the facility is in compliance with Company policies and local, state, and federal environmental and safety regulations.
  • Regularly conducts site inspections to identify potential hazards and to evaluate risks associated with equipment, materials, and practices.
  • Recommends cost-effective remediation of medium to high-risk hazards.
  • Develops and tests emergency response protocols; informs employees of their responsibilities in the event of emergency.
  • Where appropriate, conducts emergency response training and drills for managers and employees.
  • Conducts investigations of work-related injury or illness as well as near-miss incidents and reports to management and, as required, to appropriate government agencies.
  • Determines whether incidents are due to inadequate policy and procedures or negligence and takes appropriate action to prevent recurrence.
