About The Position

Buckeye Power Sales is seeking a dedicated and results-oriented Environmental, Health & Safety (EHS) Specialist. This role offers daily challenges, ownership, a friendly team environment, and stability. The ideal candidate is professional, accountable, and motivated by results, seeking constant improvement. This position is responsible for developing, implementing, and continuously improving EHS programs, ensuring compliance with various regulations, identifying and reducing workplace risks, managing fleet safety, overseeing PPE, developing training programs, managing environmental compliance, maintaining EHS records, tracking performance metrics, managing contractor safety, and developing emergency response plans. The role involves regular travel to company and customer locations.

Requirements

  • Alignment with Buckeye Power Sales core values.
  • Three or more years of EHS experience in industrial, construction, transportation, utility, or field service operations.
  • Working knowledge of OSHA, EPA, DOT, workers' compensation, and applicable regulations.
  • OSHA 30 certification required within 12 months of hire.
  • Experience with audits, inspections, investigations, corrective actions, compliance reporting, and recordkeeping.
  • Knowledge of risk management, hazard assessments, root cause analysis, safety management systems, and continuous improvement practices.
  • Experience with emergency response planning and incident management.
  • Strong leadership, communication, organizational, analytical, and problem-solving skills.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office and electronic recordkeeping systems.
  • Ability to analyze safety performance metrics and implement improvement plans.
  • Valid driver's license with an acceptable driving record.
  • Ability to travel regularly to company and customer locations.
  • Must represent the company professionally at all times.
  • Ability to pass background checks, drug screenings, and motor vehicle record reviews.

Nice To Haves

  • Associate’s or bachelor’s degree in occupational safety, Environmental Science, Industrial Hygiene, Safety Management, Risk Management, or a related field.
  • CSP, ASP, CHST, OHST, or similar certification preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Developing, implementing, and continuously improving environmental, health, safety, and compliance programs across all company operations.
  • Ensuring compliance with OSHA, EPA, DOT, state, local, and customer requirements through audits, inspections, reporting, and corrective action management.
  • Identifying and reducing workplace risks through safety audits, facility inspections, field observations, incident investigations, and hazard assessments.
  • Developing annual EHS goals, budgets, and improvement initiatives that support company objectives and reduce organizational risk.
  • Managing fleet safety, driver qualification, vehicle inspection, accident prevention, and corrective action programs.
  • Overseeing PPE selection, purchasing, inventory, distribution, training, and compliance across all company operations.
  • Developing and delivering safety and environmental training programs while maintaining employee certifications and compliance requirements.
  • Managing environmental compliance activities, including hazardous materials, hazardous waste, spill response, stormwater requirements, and regulatory reporting.
  • Maintaining EHS records, regulatory documentation, permits, certifications, OSHA logs, training records, audits, and workers' compensation documentation.
  • Tracking and reporting EHS performance metrics, developing improvement plans, and providing recommendations to leadership.
  • Managing contractor safety programs and supporting customer audits, inspections, and site-specific safety requirements.
  • Developing and maintaining emergency response, business continuity, and incident management programs.
  • Traveling to branch locations and customer sites to conduct audits, investigations, training, and safety reviews.
