About The Position

Hyster-Yale Materials Handling (HYMH) is seeking an exceptional and talented Environmental Health & Safety (EHS) Specialist I-II for its Greenville, NC location. This role is crucial for managing workers' compensation, ensuring regulatory compliance, developing and delivering EHS training, and administering EHS processes and procedures. The position requires cross-functional involvement and aims to drive improved EHS results through employee engagement and problem-solving activities.

Requirements

B.S. degree in a related discipline (Occupational Safety, Safety Sciences, and/or Environmental Engineering) or 8-12 years of progressive related EHS experience.
Broad EHS knowledge with 4-7 years of industry experience preferred.
Specialized knowledge of Federal and State environmental health and safety regulations and requirements, including Workers’ Compensation, RCRA, EPCRA, TSCA, NPDES, CAA, PSM/RMP, SPPP/SPCC, DOT, OSHA, and EPA.
Knowledgeable in proper Federal/State waste management and disposal procedures, including identifying waste materials, training on safety guidelines, conducting risk assessments on hazardous materials, and evaluating/coordinating storage and handling of hazardous waste.
Effective communication, presentation, facilitation, and problem-solving skills with excellent interpersonal skills.
Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
Excellent organizational, prioritization, and planning experience.
Excellent computer/MS Office skills for developing, maintaining, and tracking training materials and records.
Knowledge of ISO 14001 Environmental Management Systems (EMS) and ISO 45001 Occupational Safety Management Systems (SMS).
Strong MS Office skills.
Project management experience/exposure preferred.

Responsibilities

Manage workers' compensation case management and documentation, including post-accident/injury investigations and serving as a company representative in court proceedings.
Administer workers' compensation for all employees, ensuring compliance and proper coordination of benefits with the Third-Party Administrator.
Maintain facility and legal compliance, including postings, documentation, reporting, and procedures.
Ensure accident reports are completed accurately and timely, coordinating with Occupational Medicine, supervisors, and employees.
Identify, develop, coordinate, and execute EHS training programs, materials, and efforts to support operational needs and improve safety, quality, and efficiency.
Track, report, and develop training materials and an annual training plan, maintaining records to meet OSHA, ISO, and Business Management System compliance.
Develop and deliver all EHS training programs, ensuring compliance with OSHA standards.
Administer and coordinate EHS processes and procedures, including ISO 14001 & ISO 45001, BBS, SMS, EMS, and EHS.
Proactively identify training gaps and develop programs to support facility needs and initiatives.
Complete all required state and federal reporting, including OSHA logs.
Provide data, reporting, communications, and trend analysis for safety opportunities and initiatives.
Administer facility safety and wellness programs, contributing to problem-solving for improved EHS results through methods like Value Stream Mapping and Kaizen Events.
Identify safety opportunities and recommend resolutions, including training program development.
Ensure proper training programs are in place (job rotation, 1st responders, hazmat, etc.).
Lead Emergency Response Teams and ensure the efficacy of ancillary processes (spill kit replenishment, first aid supplies, etc.).
Actively respond to emergency-related events.
Ensure accident reviews for all accidents, injuries, and near-misses are conducted and facilitate discussions with the safety committee.
Conduct facility safety audits, hazard assessments, and PPE compliance audits, and Gemba walks.
Perform quarterly Industrial Wastewater and Stormwater sampling.
Improve EHS results in a participative environment by influencing and facilitating employee engagement in health, safety, and wellness.
