About The Position

The Ahlstrom Stevens Point Mill’s Co-op program aims to develop future engineering and leadership resources by providing high-quality process support to the mill’s operations. Co-op assignments are designed for candidates to grow in their chosen discipline and learn about various career paths within the organization. The goal is for Co-ops to be fully capable of stepping into a full-time engineering position upon program completion. This Environmental, Health, & Safety Co-op position at our Stevens Point, Wisconsin plant for Summer/Fall 2027 will support the EHS team in completing projects and daily tasks crucial for meeting Ahlstrom’s environmental, health, and safety goals. This role offers the opportunity to work in an engaged, team-focused environment while building relevant skills and experience.

Requirements

  • Currently authorized to work in the United States on a full-time basis.
  • Enrolled in a Health & Safety, Physical Therapy, or similar degree program.
  • Living in or willing to relocate to the Stevens Point, Wisconsin area from May/June – December 2027.
  • Strong technical aptitude and proven problem-solving abilities.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with people at all levels of the organization.

Responsibilities

  • Assist with daily safety inspections and hazard identification activities.
  • Participate in incident investigations and help identify corrective actions.
  • Support the completion and tracking of safety observations and near-miss reports.
  • Participate in waste reduction and sustainability projects.
  • Conduct environmental data collection and reporting as needed.
  • Review safety procedures and recommend improvements.
  • Help maintain Safety Data Sheets (SDS) and chemical inventories.
  • Participate in exposure monitoring activities, including noise, dust, and chemical assessments.
  • Assist with ergonomic evaluations and improvement opportunities.
  • Collect and analyze EHS performance metrics.
  • Maintain incident, audit, and training databases.
  • Develop charts, dashboards, and reports to communicate EHS performance trends.
  • Track key performance indicators (KPIs) and action item completion.
  • Lead or support assigned EHS improvement projects.
  • Recommend solutions to reduce risk and improve compliance.
  • Participate in Lean, 5S, and housekeeping initiatives.
  • Collaborate with operations, maintenance, and leadership teams to enhance safety culture.
