About The Position

The Environmental Health & Safety (EHS) Technician supports the implementation and maintenance of environmental, health, and safety programs to ensure compliance with OSHA and EPA regulations, Joint Commission, and company policies. Primary responsibilities for this position include N95 respirator Fit Testing, data entry and recordkeeping for the enterprise Respiratory Protection Program, development of online training materials, updating EHS intranet websites, performing ergonomic assessments, eyewash assessments, and/or safety data sheet management. The EHS Technician also supports the hazardous and pharmaceutical waste program, Indoor Air Quality (IAQ) sampling, bioresponse activities, and other tasks as directed by the Industrial Hygiene Programs Manager. This position may also be assigned a variety of other environmental health and safety (EHS) related duties that will assist the EHS team in maintaining a safe environment for patients, visitors and staff.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree - Required
  • Medically cleared to wear Level B personal protective equipment (Required proficiency)
  • Intermediate proficiency with office software (Microsoft Office) (Required proficiency)

  • Ability to be on-call to trouble shoot and resolve problems (Required proficiency)

Nice To Haves

  • At least six (6) months of environment health and safety related experience - Preferred
  • Intermediate knowledge of safety guidelines / regulations including from the Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA), National Institute for Occupational Safety and Health (NIOSH), Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) and Department of Environmental Protection (DEP) (Preferred proficiency)
  • Advanced proficiency with personal protective equipment (Preferred proficiency)

Responsibilities

  • Monitors audience, supplies, documentation and communicates with staff in need of annual fit testing and associated training.
  • Performs fit testing and training on respiratory protection in various locations in clinical areas as assigned by the Industrial Hygiene Programs Manager.
  • Updates online training materials, as needed.
  • Participates in regular Physical Environment (PE) rounding activities, completing checklists, providing education and feedback and escalating safety concerns.
  • Supports ad-hoc waste management needs from customers (drop off/pickup).
  • As needed, conducts air monitoring, indoor air quality sampling, water intrusion assessments, office ergonomic evaluations, topical education and feedback and hazard communication audits.
  • As needed, conducts life safety audits, provides education and feedback and participates in fire drills to assess staff competency.
  • Supports the ergonomics program by assisting with ergonomic assessments and development of training materials.
  • Supports the Bioresponse team through trainings, PPE inventory, attendance at Bioresponse meetings.
  • Participates in departmental activities including on-call, hazardous chemical spill response, bioresponse team activations, PE rounds, fire drills, and emergent event responses.
  • Collaborates with a variety of stakeholders to perform eyewash risk assessments and monitor overall eyewash program compliance.
  • Maintains the Safety Data Sheet repository and chemical inventory management system, ensuring new SDS’s are successfully uploaded as needed.
