About The Position

The Environmental Health and Safety Technician I, under supervision, performs assigned tasks to gain knowledge and actively contribute to supporting a designated area within an environmental health and safety program.

Requirements

  • High School graduation or any equivalent combination of education and experience
  • No prior experience required
  • Must have a Class “C” vehicle operator’s license or ability to obtain within 60 days of employment
  • Knowledge of word processing and spreadsheet applications
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Ability to work independently and with others
  • Ability to maintain the security and integrity of critical infrastructure, which may include communications systems, computer networks and systems, cybersecurity systems, electrical grid, hazardous waste treatment system or water treatment system
  • All tasks and job responsibilities must be performed safely without injury to self or others in compliance with System and University safety requirements

Responsibilities

  • Learns and Assists with qualitative and quantitative testing on chemical fume hoods using specialized equipment
  • Visually inspects chemical fume hoods and reports mechanical malfunctions for repairs
  • Generates test reports and documents the results in the BioRAFT software system
  • Updates BioRAFT with the most current user and equipment information
  • Submits repair requests for chemical fume hood repairs and tracks them to ensure repairs are made in a timely manner
  • Performs routine tasks in any functional area with regards to environmental health and safety
  • Conducts safety inspections
  • Performs hazard identification and risk assessments
  • Performs safety equipment calibration, inspections, and maintenance
  • Follows proper waste management practices
  • Maintains records of inspections and prepares reports
  • Participates in training and development opportunities
  • Responds with other EHS personnel to emergencies and assists emergency responders as needed
