About The Position

Plans, directs, and implements environmental, health and safety (EHS) programs to ensure compliance and to identify and resolve EHS deficiencies and/or issues. Performs the following duties personally or through supervisors or associates: ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES Other duties may be assigned, in addition to those identified below. Plans and implements: Health and Safety policies and procedures in compliance with local, state, and federal Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) rules and regulations. Environmental programs and prepares/submits environmental reports in compliance with local, state, and federal environmental regulations. Programs to train managers, supervisors and associates in site safety practices, fire prevention, personal protective equipment, and various EHS policies and corporate programs. Ensures timely and accurate reporting of required regulatory submissions including permit reports, OHSA logs and workers’ compensation claims. Manages: Sites environmental program (hazardous waste program, stormwater program, wastewater monitoring, air quality reporting, acting as a liaison with local regulatory agencies, ensuring submission of applicable monthly, periodic, and annual environmental reports, working with Corporate EHS personnel on a frequent basis). Industrial hygiene sampling for a variety of physical and chemical hazards. As necessary, contract specialized industrial hygiene work to a qualified third party. Prepares and files corresponding documentation for easy retrieval and demonstration of monitoring compliance. Sites workers' compensation program and return to work programs in collaboration with HR. Interaction with EHS regulatory agencies during site inspections (when possible); provides guidance to satellite sites on EHS regulatory inspections. Mentors, coaches and supports department team members ensuring effective training is given for success in their roles. Providing regular performance related feedback against key performance metrics developed and maintained to achieve site and corporate initiatives. Leads: Investigation of accidents and injuries and cooperates in the preparation of material utilizing EBS tools Investigates employee Environmental, Health and Safety suggestions and complaints, discusses findings and recommends possible solutions in a timely manner. Corrective measures to improve site’s accident experience and to suggest/implement means to achieve site EHS goals. New Hire Safety Orientation Job Hazard analysis, ergonomic reviews, and risk assessments to identify and minimize risks. Inspections of facility to detect existing or potential accident and health hazards, determines corrective or preventative measures where indicated, and follows up to ensure measures have been implemented. Other duties may be assigned, in addition to those identified below. Anticipated travel of up to 15%. SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES Directly supervises one employee.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree from a four-year college or university in EHS or related field.
  • At least five years of related experience and/or training.
  • Equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Fluent in English.
  • Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, or governmental regulations.
  • Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals.
  • Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, clients, customers, and the general public.
  • Ability to work with mathematical concepts such as probability and statistical inference, and fundamentals of plane and solid geometry and trigonometry.
  • Ability to apply concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios, and proportions to practical situations.
  • Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists.
  • Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.
  • Knowledge of Human Resource systems, Spreadsheet software, and Word Processing software.

Responsibilities

  • Conducts industrial hygiene sampling for physical and chemical hazards, and contracts specialized work as needed.
  • Manages the site's workers' compensation and return-to-work programs in collaboration with HR.
  • Interacts with EHS regulatory agencies during site inspections and provides guidance to satellite sites.
  • Mentors, coaches, and supports department team members, ensuring effective training.
  • Provides performance feedback against key performance metrics.
  • Leads accident and injury investigations.
  • Investigates employee EHS suggestions and complaints, discusses findings, and recommends solutions.
  • Develops and implements corrective measures to improve site safety and achieve EHS goals.
  • Conducts new hire safety orientations.
  • Performs job hazard analyses, ergonomic reviews, and risk assessments.
  • Conducts facility inspections to detect and correct potential hazards.
  • Supervises one employee.
