About The Position

The Environmental, Health, and Safety (EHS) Specialist may be based in Tampa, Jacksonville, or Orlando, Florida, and will serve as a primary safety representative supporting field operations, project teams, and management throughout Florida and at other project locations as needed. This position supports a broad range of environmental, industrial, civil, construction, demolition, drilling, excavation, remediation, plant decontamination, and related project activities. The EHS Specialist promotes a strong safety culture, helps ensure compliance with applicable federal, state, and local regulatory requirements, supports the implementation of company and client-specific safety programs, and drives continuous improvement in environmental, health, and safety performance.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent required
  • Minimum of three to five years of progressive EHS experience, preferably in industrial, environmental, construction, remediation, mining, and/or CERCLA/Superfund site environments.
  • Comprehensive knowledge and practical understanding of applicable EPA, OSHA, DOT, and MSHA regulations.
  • Strong communication, leadership, organizational, problem-solving, and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work effectively with field personnel, project management, clients, and regulatory representatives.
  • Experience delivering safety training.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications, including Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
  • Ability to obtain and maintain required medical clearance and respiratory protection certification, as applicable to assigned work.
  • Ability to perform the physical activities associated with field operations, including prolonged walking and standing, climbing, lifting and carrying materials or equipment, and wearing required personal protective equipment (PPE).
  • Ability and willingness to travel regularly throughout Florida and to other branch, project, or customer locations as business needs require.
  • Valid driver’s license and acceptable driving record required to operate company vehicles.

Nice To Haves

  • bachelor's degree in occupational safety and health, environmental health and safety, or a related field preferred.
  • Relevant certifications or training, such as OSHA 500/510, OSHA 501/511, HAZWOPER, and MSHA Part 46 and/or Part 48, are preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Support daily field and project operations by promoting safe work practices and ensuring compliance with company policies, client requirements, and applicable regulatory standards.
  • Apply a thorough understanding of applicable EPA, OSHA, MSHA, and DOT regulations to environmental, industrial, civil, construction, demolition, mining, remediation, and related activities.
  • Assist with the development, implementation, and enforcement of company and client-specific EHS policies, procedures, programs, and guidelines.
  • Conduct routine field audits and inspections of construction, excavation, drilling, demolition, remediation, plant decontamination, and other project activities to evaluate compliance with regulatory standards, client requirements, and company policies.
  • Identify, document, and report unsafe conditions and behaviors, and work proactively with employees, supervisors, and management to implement appropriate corrective measures.
  • Participate in incident investigations and root cause analyses, and assist with the development, implementation, tracking, and documentation of corrective actions.
  • Track, maintain, and analyze project- and site-specific safety metrics, incident statistics, trends, and leading indicators to identify opportunities for continuous improvement.
  • Assist with the preparation and review of project-specific Health and Safety Plans (HASPs), Job Hazard Analyses (JHAs), work permits, risk assessments, and other required safety documentation.
  • Represent the company professionally during client, contractor, and regulatory audits, inspections, and meetings.
  • Prepare safety reports, summaries, and related documentation for internal management and client representatives, as required.
  • Deliver EHS training, including employee safety orientations, toolbox talks, task-specific instruction, and compliance-based training on topics such as HAZWOPER, fall protection, heavy equipment, demolition safety, and other applicable subjects.
  • Maintain employee safety training records and assist in ensuring compliance with applicable training and certification requirements.
  • Participate in operational and project planning meetings to provide safety input, identify potential hazards, and recommend appropriate controls.
  • Respond to and provide EHS support during emergencies, incidents, and other unplanned events.
  • Coordinate and manage occupational exposure monitoring programs, including air, noise, and dust monitoring associated with activities such as excavation, demolition, decontamination, and remediation.
  • Perform other duties and responsibilities as assigned by management.
