About The Position

S&ME is seeking a motivated and enthusiastic entry-level Environmental Engineer or Geologist to join our Environmental team in Charleston, South Carolina. This role involves working closely with licensed professionals to gain hands-on field experience in preparing Phase 1 Environmental Site Assessments, scoping Phase 2 Site Assessments, and conducting delineation and remediation of contaminants in soil, groundwater, and soil gas on commercial and/or industrial project sites. The position includes a mix of field and in-office tasks related to environmental site assessments, field investigations, and data collection for civil and environmental projects.

Requirements

Bachelor's degree in Civil or Environmental Engineering, Geology, or a related engineering field.
0-2 years of experience working on, or coursework related to environmental/engineering or geology in practice areas such as environmental assessment methods, due diligence processes, regulatory permitting, and environmental compliance.
Good business and technical writing skills.
Engineer in training (EIT) license, Geologist in training (GIT), or on track to obtain licensure.

Responsibilities

Drilling of soil borings, installation of monitor wells, identification of soils, and determination of well construction.
Groundwater and soil gas sampling for chemical analysis, as well as other testing and sampling.
Engage with management, contractors, and clients to ensure project transparency and provide regular progress updates.
Preparation of data tables, graphical presentation of data, and comparison of soil and groundwater data to State regulatory standards.
Assist in drafting reports and proposals for small projects, ensuring thoroughness and accuracy in assessments and documentation.
