About The Position

S&ME is seeking a motivated and enthusiastic entry-level Environmental Engineer or Geologist to join our Environmental team in Charleston, South Carolina. This role involves working closely with licensed professionals to gain hands-on field experience in preparing Phase 1 Environmental Site Assessments, scoping Phase 2 Site Assessments, and conducting delineation and remediation of contaminants in soil, groundwater, and soil gas on commercial and/or industrial project sites. The position includes a mix of field and in-office tasks related to environmental site assessments, field investigations, and data collection for civil and environmental projects.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Civil or Environmental Engineering, Geology, or a related engineering field.
  • 0-2 years of experience working on, or coursework related to environmental/engineering or geology in practice areas such as environmental assessment methods, due diligence processes, regulatory permitting, and environmental compliance.
  • Good business and technical writing skills.
  • Engineer in training (EIT) license, Geologist in training (GIT), or on track to obtain licensure.

Responsibilities

  • Drilling of soil borings, installation of monitor wells, identification of soils, and determination of well construction.
  • Groundwater and soil gas sampling for chemical analysis, as well as other testing and sampling.
  • Engage with management, contractors, and clients to ensure project transparency and provide regular progress updates.
  • Preparation of data tables, graphical presentation of data, and comparison of soil and groundwater data to State regulatory standards.
  • Assist in drafting reports and proposals for small projects, ensuring thoroughness and accuracy in assessments and documentation.
