About The Position

Brown and Caldwell’s Private Sector Business Unit (PSBU) is looking for a self-motivated Hydrogeologist/Geologist or Environmental Engineer to join our Phoenix Office. This is a position with excellent growth potential with the successful candidate contributing to an established team of talented hydrogeologists, scientists, and engineers. In this role, you will have the opportunity to participate on multiple projects including: Groundwater Production Well Siting, Design, and Installation, Water Resource Planning and Permitting, Groundwater Recharge, Storage, and Recovery, Soil and Groundwater Investigation/Remediation, Phase I and Phase II Site Assessments and Investigations, and Permit Compliance Groundwater Monitoring. This position will require approximately 60% local onsite work, plus 25% national travel. The remaining work can be completed remotely or in our Phoenix office. The Entry Level Geologist or Engineer role is tasked with basic foundational work in the fields of geology and hydrogeology. This role principally involves carrying out routine tasks, solving elementary problems, and learning and applying fundamental skills and knowledge in geology, hydrogeology, geochemistry, and geophysics. The role is carried out under the close supervision and guidance of experienced colleagues and supervisors.

Requirements

  • Basic understanding of geology, hydrogeology, geophysics, and geochemistry.
  • Proficiency in using sampling equipment.
  • Basic analytical skills to interpret geological data and information.
  • Basic proficiency in using software and tools associated with geological studies.
  • A bachelor’s degree in geology, hydrogeology, or related field, or equivalent experience is required.

Nice To Haves

  • Knowledge of local and/or regional hydrogeology
  • Desire to obtain Professional registration in Geology or Engineering
  • Experience with well design and drilling oversight
  • Strong verbal and written (technical writing) communication skills required
  • Proficiency in using standard computer programs (MS Word, Excel); experience with MS Access, CADD, ArcGIS, and/or boring log software (such as gINT or LogPlot), and/or aquifer test estimation software (AQTESOLV)
  • 40-hour OSHA Hazardous Waste Operations (HAZWOPER) Certification
  • 24-hour MSHA Part 48
  • Ability to collect and maintain clear, accurate, and diligent field notes

Responsibilities

  • Assist in field investigations, including water and soil sampling.
  • Assist with basic well logging and field data collection tasks in a supervised setting.
  • Help in the examination and interpretation of geological, hydrogeological, geophysical, and geochemical data.
  • Follow all safety protocols and procedures related to the role.
  • Maintain and update data logs of all performed tasks.
  • Flexibility to adapt and execute various additional assignments based on evolving needs.
