About The Position

S&ME is seeking a motivated and enthusiastic entry-level Engineer or Geologist to join our Environmental team in Charleston, South Carolina. This role offers the opportunity to gain extensive hands-on field experience under the guidance of licensed professionals. You will learn to prepare Phase 1 Environmental Site Assessments, scope Phase 2 Site Assessments, and conduct delineation and remediation of various contaminants in soil, groundwater, and soil gas on commercial and/or industrial project sites. The position involves a blend of field and in-office tasks, including environmental site assessments, field investigations, and data collection for civil and environmental projects. Field work may include drilling soil borings, installing monitor wells, identifying soils, determining well construction, and performing groundwater and soil gas sampling for chemical analysis. You will also engage with management, contractors, and clients to ensure project transparency and provide progress updates. In-office tasks include preparing data tables, presenting data graphically, comparing soil and groundwater data to regulatory standards, and assisting in drafting reports and proposals.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Civil or Environmental Engineering, Geology, or a related engineering field
  • 0-2 years of experience working on, or coursework related to environmental/engineering or geology
  • Experience or coursework in environmental assessment methods
  • Experience or coursework in due diligence processes
  • Experience or coursework in regulatory permitting
  • Experience or coursework in environmental compliance
  • Good business and technical writing skills
  • Engineer in training (EIT) license, Geologist in training (GIT), or on track to obtain licensure
  • Willing and able to perform the physical demands of the position
  • Must comply with Fleet Management, Substance Policy, and Reference Check requirements
  • Must have valid employment eligibility (I-9)
