About The Position

This role is for an Environmental Engineer/Geologist at a values-driven, family-owned organization committed to safety, integrity, and service. The position offers the opportunity to play a critical role in protecting the environment and ensuring compliance across all operations. The role involves working across groundwater, storm water, air quality, waste acceptance, and environmental assessments. The successful candidate will serve as a trusted advisor, collaborate directly with regulatory agencies, lead projects end-to-end, and help prepare the organization for evolving regulations.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in civil, environmental, biosystems engineering, geology, hydrogeology, environmental science or related field
  • Professional Engineering (PE) or Professional Geologist (PG) license preferred (or ability to obtain)
  • 5+ years of experience in environmental compliance, hydrogeology, solid waste or environmental consulting
  • Proven experience working with regulatory agencies and managing environmental reporting and remediation projects
  • Strong knowledge of Michigan EGLE Hazardous Waste Management (Part 111) and Solid Waste Management (Part 115)
  • Construction and Industrial Storm Water Operator certifications preferred
  • Strong analytical, mathematical and problem-solving skills
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Ability to manage multiple projects, meet deadlines and thrive in a dynamic environment

Nice To Haves

  • Professional Engineering (PE) or Professional Geologist (PG) license preferred (or ability to obtain)
  • Construction and Industrial Storm Water Operator certifications preferred

Responsibilities

  • Lead environmental compliance programs across all Granger locations
  • Serve as subject matter expert for environmental engineering and regulatory requirements
  • Prepare permits, monitoring plans, reporting and regulatory submissions
  • Analyze environmental data and implement corrective actions
  • Develop and manage hydrogeologic and groundwater monitoring programs
  • Oversee sampling protocols, testing frequency and statistical evaluation of data
  • Prepare quarterly compliance reports and interpret monitoring results
  • Manage installation and maintenance of monitoring wells
  • Conduct drinking water assessments and implement corrective actions as needed
  • Prepare and implement Soil Erosion and Sedimentation Control (SESC) plans
  • Oversee SWPPP programs and NPDES permitting
  • Conduct site inspections, visual assessments and corrective actions
  • Train teams on storm water compliance requirements and emerging regulations
  • Ensure compliance with EGLE AQD permits and standards
  • Monitor and report air emissions (monthly and annually)
  • Support NSPS reporting and evaluate odor mitigation systems
  • Manage spill response, SPCC plans and SARA reporting
  • Conduct site audits, inspections and compliance training
  • Support hazardous material analysis and disposal
  • Collaborate with legal counsel and regulatory agencies as needed
  • Evaluate materials for acceptance across operations
  • Identify prohibited or hazardous materials
  • Assess potential environmental and safety risks
  • Manage environmental site assessments (Phase I & II, BEAs)
  • Provide guidance on environmental risks during property transactions
