About The Position

Under the direction of the Environmental Manager, the Environmental Coordinator will assure compliance with all applicable federal, state, local and corporate environmental and safety regulations, and permit issues (air, water, etc.). They will assist in the development and administration of environmental policies, procedures and programs at the Crystal Hill facility. The role involves monitoring operational issues relating to the Crystal Hill facility on technical problems, technical changes to plant equipment, processes, energy, and electrical/instrumentation systems at site facilities. The coordinator assists and coordinates, under the direction of the Environmental Manager, capital and repair projects, and written procedures, training and operational controls.

Responsibilities

  • Inspecting and monitoring the operations and maintenance of pollution control equipment for optimal operating efficiency; documentation and record keeping associated with said activities to the degree as necessitated by regulation and/or corporate/division policy. This includes documentation of excess emissions, downtime, maintenance, malfunctions, and operation parameters of pollution control equipment monthly and submitting reports to the Virginia Department of Environmental Quality quarterly and EPA as required.
  • Coordinating the operation of the WESP water treatment plant with site WESP operation. Including plant shutdowns, effluent concentrations, water sampling, water reuse and system pH.
  • Assisting the Environmental Manager with responsibilities, duties, and tasks.
  • Serving as fill-in for the Environmental Manager in their absence.
  • Assisting in maintaining Toxic Release Inventory (TRI) records and release calculations as required under EPCRA Section 313 and preparing Form R (or Form A, as applicable) for submission to the appropriate regulatory agencies.
  • Assisting in maintaining the facility's hazardous chemical inventory and supporting reporting requirements under EPCRA Sections 311 and 312, including preparation and submission of annual Tier II reports.
  • Maintaining documentation and submitting data including fuel use, operating data, material usage, and other information in support of permit limitations and recordkeeping requirements. Assisting in maintaining emissions inventories and preparing reports for Hazardous Air Pollutants (HAPs) and other regulated air emissions.
  • Coordinating air emissions testing, as required by Virginia Department of Environmental Quality or other in-house air emissions testing, with other plant operations to ensure maximum performance of all operating parameters that influence equipment efficiency. Maintaining appropriate operational records during test periods.
  • Maintaining the effective utilization and disposal of all solid wastes, which includes but is not limited to wood ash, used oil, paper, and maintaining records as to identity and quantity of waste, means and location of disposal.
  • Reconciling all oil, gas and diesel fuel deliveries, usage and maintaining appropriate records.
  • Maintaining compliance with stormwater management and spill prevention programs through inspections of tanks, piping, secondary containment and stormwater control measures; conducting monitoring and sampling activities; maintaining records; coordinating corrective actions and employee training; and preparing required reports and certifications.
  • Assisting in the development and implementation of beneficial use programs for wood ash, including land application, forestry applications, concrete additives, and other approved uses, while ensuring compliance with applicable regulations and permit requirements.
  • Sharing responsibility with plant personnel for plant and yard housekeeping, noise and fugitive dust control policy and implementation.
  • Developing and implementing programs to monitor and document incoming materials, handling and storage of materials and disposal of materials through recycling of other means available to ensure that minimal to zero impact on the environment occurs.
