This is an existing vacancy.

Requirements

Honours degree or diploma in Chemistry, Engineering, Environmental Science or a related field
Familiarity with current, relevant environmental regulations
At least three years of relevant environmental work experience
Strong written and oral communication skills
Good problem-solving, computer and organizational skills
Ability to multitask
Strong ability to work independently as well as in teams
Good communication skills
Demonstrate the ability to understand and interpret environmental legislation with respect to effects on Stelco's operations
Good interpersonal skills
Punctuality and attendance are extremely important to the success of the operations in general as well as contributing to an overall positive team environment

Nice To Haves

Previous work experience in the steel and/or manufacturing sector is an asset

Responsibilities

Support the Environmental Manager, in liaising with government officials such as the Ontario Ministry of the Environment, Conservation and Parks (MECP), Environment and Climate Change Canada (ECCC), and municipal government, from time to time.
Support the Environmental Manager, in liaising with local stakeholders including neighbours and the Nanticoke Environment Committee, as may be required, from time to time.
Lead report writing and submissions - as required by federal/provincial/municipal environmental requirements, and Stelco internal plant reports as may be required.
Work with and provide support to plant staff to ensure compliance with applicable environmental laws and regulations.
Prepare and submit environmental compliance approval applications.
Develop and implement source reduction and environmental control solutions to improve performance and meet new requirements.
Assist with on-going implementation of Stelco’s Environmental Management System.
Manage and direct contracted service companies working on environmental projects.
Practice the requirements of the Stelco safety program to ensure a safe work environment.
Provide support to the Manager – Environmental Affairs, as required.
