About The Position

The Environmental Coordinator supports environmental compliance, sustainability, and waste‑reduction activities within manufacturing operations. This role coordinates environmental programs, assists with permitting and regulatory reporting, and helps ensure ongoing compliance with federal, state, and local environmental requirements. Working closely with plant leadership, vendors, and regulators, the Environmental Coordinator supports audits, evaluates environmental impacts of process changes, and contributes to continuous improvement in environmental performance and cost control. This role is critical for environmental compliance and risk management, ensuring the facility consistently meets federal, state, and local regulatory requirements while maintaining permits and avoiding operational or financial exposure. It drives sustainability and waste‑reduction initiatives that directly impact cost control, regulatory performance, and environmental stewardship across manufacturing operations. The position provides governance and oversight for environmental programs, financial reporting, and audits, supporting accurate compliance reporting, sound investment decisions, and long‑term operational stability. It acts as a key partner to plant leadership, regulators, contractors, and cross‑functional teams, influencing facility changes, leading environmental programs, and enabling compliant growth and process improvements.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in environmental engineering, chemical engineering, or a related technical, science, or engineering discipline.
  • Experience in a management or professional role within a mid‑size or moderately complex manufacturing environment, with strong knowledge of environmental regulations and ISO 14001 environmental management systems.
  • Demonstrated background managing environmental and operational projects, including independently leading small to medium projects and contributing to larger, more complex initiatives, with a track record of developing and implementing environmental programs.
  • Working knowledge of federal, state, and local environmental regulations; project planning and execution; contractor and consultant management; cost and return‑on‑investment analysis; and effective written, verbal, and presentation communication skills.

Responsibilities

  • Lead waste reduction and sustainability initiatives, directing plant functional areas to minimize landfill waste and solvent usage.
  • Evaluate, audit, and approve waste vendors to ensure safe, compliant transportation, recycling, and disposal of plant waste materials.
  • Manage environmental financial and compliance reporting, including Sarbanes‑Oxley (SOX) and FIN‑47 requirements.
  • Review and approve facility, process, and material changes to assess and mitigate potential environmental impacts and permit implications.
  • Oversee environmental permitting, including identifying requirements, calculating emissions, preparing applications, and negotiating terms with regulators.
  • Ensure regulatory compliance by interpreting applicable federal, state, and local regulations; conducting compliance audits; and implementing corrective actions as needed.
