About The Position

This is an advanced level environmental position in the Permitting Program and serves as the subject matter expert for permitting activities related to Environmental Resource Permitting (ERP). This position serves as liaison between the districts, divisions, and the regulated community. Duties include, but are not limited to, assisting with the coordination of permitting activities for environmental resource permitting, which may include the distribution of permitting workload to staff; reviewing and evaluating permit applications for conformance with federal and state rules and regulations; producing highly complex permits and requests for additional information, when required, that are consistent with prescribed rules and department guidance and procedures; performing site inspections, as necessary, in support of reviews and evaluations; responsible for the accurate and timely entry of required data and system information into agency databases and Oculus; providing technical assistance to the compliance assurance program; coordinating with the compliance assurance program to ensure that permits address necessary corrective action, when appropriate; mentoring staff on application reviews, conducting peer reviews, and/or approving documents on behalf of the administrator; maintaining effective internal communications with leadership and coworkers in keeping with the department’s standards and expectations for communication effectiveness; providing regulatory assistance, such as outreach, permitting determinations and exemptions, to permittee and/or company representatives, other department programs, delegated local programs, and other interested parties; and performing related work as required by supervisor.

Requirements

  • Knowledge of the terminology, principles, and analytical techniques of the environmental or natural sciences.
  • Knowledge of data collection and analysis principles and procedures.
  • Ability to collect, evaluate, analyze, and interpret scientific or technical reports and supporting documentation.
  • Ability to prepare technical reports.
  • Ability to use a personal computer and Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Ability to understand and apply applicable regulations, policies and procedures relating to environmental programs.
  • Ability to determine work priorities and ensure proper completion of work assignments.
  • Ability to work independently.
  • Ability to communicate effectively and professionally, both verbally and in writing.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with co-workers and leadership.
  • Ability to interact with customers in a tactful and courteous manner.

  • Experience with environmental resource permitting activities.
  • At least 5 years of verifiable related experience. Post-secondary degrees may be used as an alternative for the required years of experience on a year-for-year basis. A credential evaluation report from an approved agency must be submitted along with all foreign degrees.
  • Valid Driver License
