About The Position

Provides risk consulting support for Pollution Liability underwriters and insurance customers in AXA XL’s Americas – Environmental unit.

Requirements

  • BS Engineering or Science discipline with extensive environmental consulting or pollution liability loss control related experience.
  • MS Engineering or Science discipline with 5 to 8 years environmental consulting or pollution liability loss control related experience.
  • Ability to provide an opinion on the quality of environmental submission materials, identify known & suspected pollution conditions, and identify site-specific data gaps.
  • Ability to review large volumes of environmental information and concisely summarize findings to support pollution liability underwriting and decision making.
  • Ability to serve as an account manager, prioritize and track multiple risk assessment projects, provide value-added recommendations & information for underwriters and customers, and work self-supported and/or collaborate as needed.
  • In-depth knowledge of ASTM E1527 Phase I Environmental Site Assessment definitions and scope, including RECs, CRECs & HRECs.
  • Knowledge of USEPA 40 CFR 312 Innocent Landowners, Standards for Conducting All Appropriate Inquiries.
  • Knowledge of CSA Z768-01 Phase I Environmental Site Assessment standard.
  • Previous experience reviewing Phase I and II ESAs.
  • Understanding of ASTM E1903 Standard Practice for Environmental Site Assessments: Phase II Environmental Site Assessment Process.
  • Knowledge of USEPA and State environmental regulatory programs, specifically site investigation and remediation standards and regulations.
  • Knowledge of environmental site investigation techniques and remediation technologies.
  • Knowledge of environmental related industry standards: ANSI, API, ASTM, NFPA, ISO, ASHRAE, etc.
  • Microsoft Office knowledge – Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Co-pilot (or other AI applications).

Nice To Haves

  • Practical hands-on experience performing Phase I & II ESAs desired.
  • Knowledge of pollution liability and environmental impairment insurance is desirable.
  • Knowledge of pollution claims frequency, severity, and root causes desirable.
  • Experience working for or with EHS consultants and industrial contractor’s desirable.

Responsibilities

  • Serves as a risk consulting account manager and routinely interfaces with pollution liability underwriters to provide technical support on new and renewal accounts including marketing efforts as requested.
  • Identifies known or suspected pollution conditions and environmental claim risks.
  • Provides underwriting submission screening and in-depth review of assigned US and Canada accounts with a focus on pollution liability for real estate transactions, redevelopment projects, and operational facilities.
  • Reviews, summarizes, and provides an opinion of risk on the status and adequacy of site investigation and remediation projects within the context of Federal, State, and local environmental regulatory programs.
  • Provides analysis of pollution-related operational liabilities and third-party exposures.
  • Conducts in-person and telephone pollution liability risk assessments and prepares internal reports.
  • Provides customers with loss control recommendations and resources to reduce pollution liability exposures.
  • Evaluates site risks associated with hazardous material use, asbestos containing materials, lead based paint, water intrusion & mold, legionella, radon, vapor intrusion and indoor air quality.
  • Evaluates emerging environmental risks and regulations for assigned accounts.
  • Assists with technical support and training on business unit underwriting and risk consulting guidelines.
  • Creates and prepares technical risk bulletins, whitepapers, technical briefs, and articles as requested.
  • Prepares task orders and project management of third-party consultants providing underwriting risk assessment services, on-site surveys, and loss control services.
  • Works with outside consultants and our Predict & Prevent – Marketplace technology partners to facilitate customer services.
  • Develops working relationships with insurance brokers and customers facilitating communication with underwriting, claims, and other support staff.
  • Supports manager and company quality, efficiency, technical and special projects as requested.
