Environmental Compliance Specialist II
About The Position
The Environmental Compliance Specialist II will serve as an inspector focusing on animal feeding operations (AFO) compliance enforcement. In this role, they will evaluate, recommend, and maintain effective best management practices on production and land application areas of AFOs, while enforcing the General Discharge Permit and other environmental laws to protect human health and the environment. This position involves exposure to uncomfortable or unpleasant surroundings, agricultural production environments including waste storage and handling areas, and requires the use of protective equipment. Bio-Security is mandatory at AFO’s to prevent or reduce the transfer of contaminants between AFO’s. Bio-Hazard Gear may be required when entering some facilities. Exposure to all types of weather conditions is expected. The incumbent will be required to drive a State vehicle. If you hold an out-of-state driver’s license, you must provide a certified copy of your driving record from the issuing state’s Motor Vehicle Administration at the time of hire. All individuals must maintain a driver's license with no more than 5 points on their driving record to operate a State vehicle.
Requirements
- Five years of experience performing environmental regulatory compliance work in more than one of the following areas: water pollution control; sediment and erosion control; tidal and non-tidal wetlands; flood control and waterway construction; storm water management; coal, non-coal and surface mining; air quality and air management control; solid waste management; hazardous waste control; and oil pollution control.
- Possess a motor vehicle operator's license valid in the State of Maryland.
- Maintain a driver's license with no more than 5 points on their driving record to operate a State vehicle.
- Provide a phone number where they can be reached.
Nice To Haves
- Bachelor’s degree in agriculture or agricultural / environmental science.
- Two to four Years of Agricultural Inspection / Compliance work.
- Strong Agricultural / Livestock background.
- Strong computer skills.
