About The Position

This position patrols, enforces, and communicates with the public regarding Illegal Dumping Ordinances. Patrols the county for code violations pertaining to solid waste, recycling, yard waste, and litter. Patrols the illegal dumping areas looking for non-compliance with the CCG Solid Waste Ordinances. Testifies in court in reference to citations issued. Attends court for citations. Explains laws, ordinances, and other concerns to the public, other departments, and elected officials. Performs administrative duties; completes weekly reports. Investigates and researches property ownership through the property tax office. Responds to daily 311 Citizens Services Center requests/concerns. Interacts with courts, probation agencies, and probationers. Supervise probationers in picking up litter. Performs other related duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • Knowledge of safety rules and regulations.
  • Knowledge of communication equipment such as phones, handheld radios, cell phones, etc.
  • Knowledge of City policy, City ordinances, Georgia State law, federal law on yard waste, household garbage, and recycling collection and disposal.
  • Knowledge of and ability to serve citation for violations of city codes.
  • Knowledge of principles and practices of report preparation, filing, and records management.
  • Skill in interpersonal communication skills used throughout the day on citizens, co-workers, management, inmates, and other city staff.
  • Skill in map reading and interpretation.
  • Skill in time maintenance.
  • Skill in problem solving and decision-making.
  • Skill in standard business operations and computer programs; OUTLOOK, internet, EXCEL, WORD, CITILINK, and other software applications.
  • Skill in developing and implementing workplace policies and procedures.
  • Skill in written and verbal communication.
  • Skill in understanding instructions, both written and verbal.
  • Skill in map route design.
  • Ability to react positively and functionally to sudden changes.
  • Ability to discern map areas and the fastest way to navigate through a collection route, which is a section of the city of Columbus.
  • Ability to design an optimum way to traverse a route.
  • Ability to read, write, and perform basic mathematical calculations.
  • Must be sworn in by the Columbus Police Department.
  • Possession of or ability to readily obtain a valid driver's license issued by the State of Georgia for the type of vehicle or equipment operated.
