About The Position
The Eagan Police Department is seeking a full-time Community Service Officer. This visible role supports the department by maintaining the Police Department’s vehicle fleet, completing department tasks, and assisting the public. The position is non-exempt, benefit-eligible, and offers a pay range of $28.38 - $36.80 per hour, depending on qualifications.
Requirements
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Valid driver's license.
- Successful completion of background investigation, medical exam, and drug testing.
- Able to perform all essential job functions under working conditions as described.

Responsibilities
- Ensure all squad cars are serviced at proper intervals and monitor their equipment, recommending replacement as necessary.
- Develop daily squad assignments for patrol operations and work with sworn staff to ensure they have clean, properly functioning vehicles.
- Obtain vehicle repair quotes, ensure firearms are removed before vehicle service, and perform minor repairs if able.
- Maintain cleanliness of garages and police department areas, manage and inventory supplies, and refill fire extinguishers and order oxygen.
- Manage the speed trailer, including assignment, setup, takedown, data download, and report printing.
- Assist IT with upgrades and repairs of squad laptops and perform duties in the Property Room.
- Ensure Police lock boxes are in working order with functioning keys for quick access.
- Respond to requests for secure transportation, deliveries, or errands, such as bank deposits and interoffice mail.
- Assist Range and Use of Force Instructors with purchasing and delivering training materials.
- Provide security escorts and activity monitoring for visitors to the secure portion of the Police Department.
- Back up the CSO II/Animal Control Officer and take over animal control duties in their absence.
- Issue summons/citations for City Code Violations when applicable.
- Respond to and investigate animal-related complaints, perform follow-up on bites and quarantines, and determine/authorize animal placement for treatment, shelter, or euthanasia.
- Interpret State statutes and City ordinances for law enforcement action, such as snow bans, parking, junk vehicles, and dog-related violations.
- Provide public education on animal care, regulations, and wildlife management.
- Assist sworn officers with their duties as requested or assigned, reporting criminal activity immediately.
- Draft minor police reports (e.g., criminal damage to property, theft) and issue summons/citations for City Code Violations when applicable.
- Participate and maintain proficiency in department-recognized defensive tactics.
- Test participants in the Dakota County Safe Streets program.
- Perform fingerprinting for applicant background investigations.
- Book and release criminals for Officers/Detectives.
- Perform manual speed surveys and input data.
- Assist with bike rodeos and other public relations duties.
- Serve subpoenas.
- Conduct Police Department tours.
- Process found property.
- Testify in court and related hearings.
- Provide motorist assistance, including with stalled vehicles, stuck vehicles, and lockouts.
- Assist patrol officers with traffic control at crash and incident scenes.
- Coordinate the pickup and delivery of uniforms and equipment to and from approved vendors.
