This role is responsible for cleaning patient care areas, surgical areas, public/private restrooms, conference rooms, lobbies, offices, elevators, and stairwells. The Environmental Assistant cleans all environmental surfaces including ceilings and vents, walls, doors, furniture, beds, bathroom fixtures, and windows. They also assist in cleaning emergency spills as requested. The position involves dusting and damp mopping floors, replacing cubicle and window coverings, and gathering and disposing of recyclables, trash, and medical waste, including hazardous trash following established infection control guidelines. Additionally, the role includes sorting, stocking, and delivering linens, as well as gathering and preparing soiled linen for transportation. The Environmental Assistant cleans and prepares dismissal and transfer units and certain equipment used in the care of patients, distributes non-medical supplies, and fills and cleans supply dispensers. Inventory of linens, cleaning supplies, and paper supplies is also a responsibility, along with ordering additional supplies in a timely and cost-effective manner, and keeping the housekeeping closet organized and clean. The incumbent must report any mechanical failures or unsafe conditions to the supervisor.
