About The Position

Ivanhoe Electric Inc. is a United States-domiciled minerals exploration company focused on developing mines from mineral deposits principally located in the United States. The company aims to support American supply chain independence by finding and delivering copper and other critical metals. They utilize their Typhoon™ geophysical surveying system and advanced data analytics from their subsidiary, Computational Geosciences Inc. (CGI), to enhance mineral exploration. Ivanhoe Electric's efforts are concentrated on copper and other metals like nickel, cobalt, platinum group elements, gold, and silver. Their primary project is the Santa Cruz Copper Project in Arizona. Additionally, they have a joint venture with Saudi Arabian Mining Company (Maaden) for mineral exploration in Saudi Arabia and an exploration alliance with BHP Mineral Resources Inc. for critical minerals in the United States. The Environmental and Permitting Coordinator role is crucial for supporting the Manager of Environmental and Permitting in ensuring mining operations comply with federal, state, and local environmental regulations. This involves maintaining permits, assisting with reporting, and supporting permitting activities throughout the mine lifecycle. The position also requires strong document control and management, accurate record-keeping, tracking regulatory commitments, and meeting deadlines within budget and schedule constraints. Success hinges on organizational skills, attention to detail, and contributing to environmentally responsible, compliant, and efficient mining operations.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Environmental Science, Environmental Engineering, Geology, Natural Resources, or a related field (or equivalent combination of education and experience).
  • Two to five years of experience in environmental compliance, permitting, or a related field, preferably supporting mining or other heavy industrial operations.
  • Working knowledge of U.S. environmental regulations, including the Clean Water Act, Clean Air Act, RCRA, and NEPA, as well as environmental sampling, permit compliance, and regulatory reporting.
  • Strong organizational, document management, communication, and time management skills, with the ability to manage multiple priorities in both office and field environments.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite

Nice To Haves

  • Familiarity with hard rock mining processes and associated environmental impacts is preferred.
  • experience with environmental databases and GIS is preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Demonstrate a strong commitment to Ivanhoe Electric's Health, Safety, and Environmental (HSE) program by promoting a culture where safety, environmental stewardship, and regulatory compliance are integral to all work activities.
  • Consistently work safely by identifying and mitigating risks, properly using required personal protective equipment (PPE), maintaining clean and organized work areas, and supporting the company's digital HSE management system.
  • Actively participate in safety meetings, planning sessions, and operational discussions while providing leadership and accountability to ensure safe, compliant, and environmentally responsible operations.
  • Coordinate the preparation, submittal, and tracking of federal, state, and local permits required for mining activities (e.g., air, water, waste, land disturbance).
  • Maintain permit register and ensure all conditions, reporting deadlines, and compliance requirements are met.
  • Interface with regulatory agencies (e.g., BLM, EPA, state and local environmental departments) regarding permit applications, renewals, and modifications as directed by the Environmental and Permitting Manager.
  • Support environmental inspections and audits; assist in responding to agency inquiries and notices.
  • Coordinate environmental monitoring programs (surface water, groundwater, air quality, wildlife, vegetation, etc.).
  • Compile and review environmental data for accuracy and completeness.
  • Prepare routine compliance reports, including discharge monitoring reports (DMRs), annual environmental reports, and permit-required submissions.
  • Track and document compliance metrics and support internal reporting systems.
  • Maintain organized environmental and stakeholder engagement records, permits, and compliance documentation in accordance with regulatory requirements.
  • Support development and updates of environmental management plans, standard operating procedures, and compliance matrices.
  • Utilize environmental and stakeholder data systems and GIS tools where applicable.
  • Assist in permitting and environmental review for new projects, expansions, and modifications.
  • Coordinate with engineering, geology, operations, and external consultants to gather necessary data for environmental and permitting inputs.
  • Support environmental impact assessments (EIAs) and baseline studies.
  • Assist in implementation and tracking of reclamation and closure activities.
  • Support monitoring and reporting of reclamation success criteria.
  • Contribute to sustainability initiatives, including water management, waste reduction, and emissions control.
  • Support preparation and delivery of environmental compliance training to site personnel.
  • Promote awareness of environmental responsibilities among operations teams.
  • Act as a liaison between the environmental and permitting team and other departments to ensure integration of compliance requirements.
