What is the role? Shell Trading & Supply Distribution Operations (TSD‑Ops) manages one of the world’s largest energy distribution networks—moving more than 6 million barrels per day of product to support Shell customers across Mobility, Aviation, Commercial Road Transport, LNG, and low‑carbon energy sectors. The Environmental Advisor plays a critical role in supporting this mission by ensuring our terminals maintain full regulatory compliance while driving continuous improvement and preparing our operations for future regulatory and sustainability challenges. The Environmental Advisor supports TSD‑Ops in maintaining our License to Operate across a diverse set of terminal assets in the Northeastern US, Northern California, and the Pacific Northwest. In this role, you will partner with operations, supporting Shell functions, and regulatory agencies to strengthen environmental performance, to help shape and deliver robust environmental practices that protect our operations, our communities, and the environment. The Environmental Advisor role requires an individual with experience in environmental compliance able to combine their technical skills and leadership abilities to own and deliver complex regulatory issues critical to TSD-Ops Terminal performance. This includes working with complex Federal, State, and local regulations and programs, with a high degree of interface with Regulatory Agencies, Operations, Business Leaders, and Community stakeholders. The Environmental Advisor is accountable for ensuring compliance with all applicable local, state, and federal environmental regulations across seven TSD‑Ops terminals. This includes managing environmental permitting and reporting for air, water, waste, and biodiversity, as well as supporting Shell’s SEAM Standards, GHGEM requirements, and internal performance frameworks. The role will partner closely with Terminal Managers, Operations, Engineering, HSSE Advisors, and external agencies to identify risks, drive mitigation strategies, and implement sustainable solutions. The Environmental Advisor will also oversee third‑party environmental consultants and maintain high-quality assurance of environmental data utilized across Shell systems. Dimensions: Coverage area includes seven (7) terminal locations: three (3) located in the Northeast US, two (2) located in Northern California, and two (2) located in the Pacific Northwest. Primary focal point for internal and external environmental reporting. Reports to Sr. Environmental Advisor/Environmental Team Lead (Americas). Approx. 25% travel required for site visits, regulatory meetings, and inspections. Limited fieldwork may be required. No direct reports.
