About The Position

Based at the Goldboro Gold Project, this role is for an Environment Technical Lead to join the NexGold team, reporting to the Director of Environment. The successful candidate will implement environmental field programs, conduct field sampling, and support environmental management skills. This role requires supporting protocols to meet or exceed environmental performance standards and demonstrating initiative and organizational skills in all weather conditions. The incumbent will also provide mentorship to junior team members. NexGold is committed to advancing economic reconciliation and supporting Mi'kmaq participation in the Goldboro Project, with a commitment to hiring locally within Guysborough County.

Requirements

  • Degree or diploma in an environmental or a related field
  • 3+ years of experience conducting work within a field-based environment, including experience in an environmental field sampling/analysis role
  • Excellent computer skills, including proficiency in Office Suite
  • A high degree of initiative in all weather conditions
  • Strong process-improvement, organization, and project management skills
  • Effective decision-making and problem-solving skills
  • Capacity to work to tight deadlines with evolving priorities
  • Excellent attention to detail, written and verbal communication skills
  • Ability to lead by example and provide mentorship to maintain high standards of work performance
  • Must be able to handle a high level of confidentiality
  • Valid driver’s license equivalent to Class 5 in Nova Scotia

  • Experience in a mining or industrial environment will be highly regarded

Responsibilities

  • Work and communicate within a team environment towards well-defined objectives
  • Collect, monitor, and analyze environmental data related to a variety of disciplines such as surface water, groundwater, hydrology, geochemistry, aquatics, SAR, air quality, etc. using best practices, methods, trends and developments in data management, including company-specific processes (Borealis or alternate software)
  • Coordinate and support field programs, schedules, logistics, resources, data and records consistent with regulatory and company requirements
  • Maintain accurate data and test results in accordance with sampling and monitoring criteria, and verify QA/QC for external laboratories
  • Maintain and calibrate field equipment
  • Assist with the mentorship of Environmental Technician(s) and related co-op students in decision making, data collection protocols, field planning and health & safety
  • Coordinate with contractors/consultants as appropriate
  • Participate in stakeholder events as appropriate
  • Support an understanding of environmental performance within the site team and promote a culture that meets or exceeds protocols
  • Advocate company performance internally as well as to our stakeholders, as required
  • Aid in the submission and support of permits and respective programs where applicable
  • Analyze, interpret, and manage environmental data to ensure quality standards are met
  • Support the development, implementation, maintenance, and updating of an Environmental Management System, as well as environmental management and monitoring plans, policies; and procedures
  • Support the review and completion of environmental audit, identifying areas for improvement and ensuring compliance with various environmental monitoring programs
  • Provide guidance and support on-site hazardous waste management and disposal according to site standards and legislation, and maintain spill response plans and spill reporting registry
  • Support the completion of required compliance reporting including the analysis, interpretation, and effective communication of environmental data to information site management decisions and provide suggestions for environmental improvements
  • Assist in the preparation of internal and external environmental documents
  • Demonstrate a personal commitment to Safety, Health, and Environmental responsibilities
  • Any other duties as reasonably assigned by the Company from time to time
