About The Position

Cinesite is an international visual effects and animation studio with over 30 years of experience in the film and television industry. We take pride in producing cutting-edge, award-winning works. Reporting to the Leads and the Supervisors, the Environment Modeler creates high quality stylized digital organic assets. They work closely with the Lead Environment Modeler, Environment Supervisor and the 2D team to ensure that assets maintain the design style of the film, and create a world that will resonate with the audience.

Requirements

  • Previous experience creating hard-surface and organic digital models and sets on animated projects
  • Excellent understanding of the feature animation pipeline from modeling through texturing, animation and rendering.
  • Thorough understanding of the modelling process and the ability to both interpret designs and accurately match reference material.
  • Excellent Maya polygon and subdivision surface modelling skills and the ability to unwrapand manage UVs.
  • Solid familiarity with Zbrush and organic modeling
  • Ability to work well within a team while solving asset-specific issues independently.
  • Experience with sculpting packages.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • An organized and methodical approach to your work.

Nice To Haves

  • Knowledge of traditional art skills is a plus (Form, architecture, anatomy, topology, colour theory and UV mapping)
  • Basic texturing skills and an understanding of rigging techniques is a plus.

Responsibilities

  • Work with the Lead Environment Modeler, the modeling Supervisor and the Environment Supervisor to interpret 2D designs into 3D models in order to realize aesthetic vision of the production
  • Create mostly organic modeling from supplied references (designs/concepts) and/or creative briefs.
  • Produce optimized assets that work efficiently while creating and using geometry assets in a production setting.
  • Unwrap and adjust UVs, working closely with surfacing artists to ensure UVs are positioned and scaled efficiently.
  • Take creative and technical direction from seniors, leads and supervisors in a constructive way
  • Provide creative ideas and solutions for the film on both visual and technical levels.
  • Work closely with downstream departments through collaboration groups (Layout, rigging, animation, lithting…) to resolve technical issues and to optimize assets.
  • Produce the highest quality work possible within a given amount of time and a defined pipeline
  • Proactively flag any delay or issues encountered (workflow, technical..) and troubleshoot them if possible
  • Interest to develop procedural modeling skills with Houdini and other softwares
