About The Position

Prime Controls is hiring an Associate Developer in its Business Technology Group to build APIs, integrations, automations, and AI agents that connect business and engineering systems. The early-career role is intended for a developer who can use modern AI development tools to produce working, supportable software. Work includes creating APIs against internal engineering data, replacing spreadsheet-based and manual processes with field-facing tools, and automating repetitive work in areas such as estimating, project controls, purchasing, and document handling. The developer will write, test, document, and hand off maintainable code. This is neither a help desk nor an infrastructure role. The position partners with Engineering, IT, platform owners, and business groups. The developer is expected to grow through mentorship, code review, and increasing standards as Prime develops a small development function. The position is primarily performed in a professional office environment at the Lewisville headquarters. It requires regular collaboration with office and field personnel and may involve occasional travel to regional offices or project sites. Site visits may include active construction or industrial environments and require personal protective equipment.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Computer Information Systems, or a related field, or equivalent demonstrated ability.
  • Working proficiency in at least one modern programming language such as Python, JavaScript or TypeScript, or C#.
  • Understanding of REST APIs, JSON, HTTP, and basic authentication concepts, demonstrated through coursework, internships, personal projects, or prior work.
  • Familiarity with relational databases and SQL sufficient to read a schema, write queries, and reason about data relationships.
  • Hands-on use of AI development tools to produce working software, with the ability to explain what the tool produced and why it is correct.
  • Evidence of initiative, including projects started and completed without assignment, persistence in solving problems, and work shipped rather than shelved.
  • Ability to communicate clearly with non-developers, including field and office staff describing problems in their own terms.
  • Willingness to work onsite at the Lewisville headquarters and travel occasionally to regional offices or project sites.

Nice To Haves

  • Internship, co-op, or project experience building or consuming production APIs.
  • Experience with Git-based version control and collaborative code review.
  • Exposure to the Microsoft stack, including Power Platform, SharePoint, Microsoft Graph, or Entra ID.
  • Exposure to cloud services, containerization, or CI/CD pipelines.
  • Coursework or project work in machine learning, natural language processing, or agent frameworks.
  • Interest in construction, industrial automation, controls, or manufacturing environments.
  • Experience turning a manual process into an automated one.

Responsibilities

  • Build and maintain REST API endpoints that expose project and asset data from internal engineering systems to other tools, including field-facing applications.
  • Implement authentication and authorization for internal and externally reachable applications using approved patterns such as JWT, Microsoft Entra ID, or issued API keys.
  • Develop integrations among enterprise platforms, including ERP/MRP, engineering data systems, construction tracking platforms, Microsoft 365, and internal tools.
  • Build integrations with logging, error handling, retries, and alerting so failures are visible and recoverable.
  • Document endpoints, payloads, dependencies, and support expectations.
  • Build AI agents and assisted workflows on approved platforms, including Claude and the Microsoft AI stack, for defined business processes.
  • Automate manual and repetitive processes using Power Automate, Python, PowerShell, scripted jobs, or platform-native capabilities.
  • Define and test guardrails for agents that access business data, including access and write permissions, escalation requirements, and output verification.
  • Measure automation outcomes using before-and-after metrics such as transaction time, keying error rate, or cycle time.
  • Evaluate native platform capabilities before developing custom solutions, in accordance with BTG governance.
  • Contribute to internal applications, including JavaScript-based field and project tools, focusing on refinement, integration, and stability.
  • Own assigned application components by fixing defects, improving usability, and keeping applications deployable.
  • Improve internal tools based on user feedback from field and office personnel.
  • Support version control, code review, branching, and release practices.
  • Use AI development tools in daily work for code generation, refactoring, test creation, documentation, and debugging, and review and verify AI-generated output.
  • Share working patterns, prompts, and reusable approaches with BTG and Engineering.
  • Follow Prime's AI governance policy, approved tools, data handling rules, and review expectations.
  • Coordinate with IT on infrastructure, security review, licensing, identity, and hosting before exposing applications outside the network.
  • Translate business requests into scoped technical approaches and identify whether a need is best addressed by configuration, automation, an internal application, or a vendor platform.
  • Participate in testing and validation, write test cases, and support user acceptance testing for workflow changes.
  • Maintain documentation, handoff notes, and decision records for work delivered.
  • Route material changes through the Change Control Board and support the Change Management Coalition on adoption and rollout of tools used in the field.
