About The Position

The House of Commons’ Digital Services and Real Property is currently looking to staff the Communications Distribution Designer (Enterprise Architect) position. Digital Services and Real Property operate in a product-centric environment. As the Communications Distribution Designer you provide advice and guidance on the best practices for cabling and network infrastructure design, cable management, security for computer networks, internet telephony, optical networks, and wireless networks. This role is vital in researching and evaluating new concepts, approaches and technologies. You will provide enterprise-wide recommendations for enhancements to new buildings, heritage buildings and system projects. In addition, this role collaborates closely with stakeholders during the envisioning, planning and execution stages of various projects providing input on the development of project goals, constraints, and requirements, with a lens from the Communications Distribution Design to ensure projects comply with House of Commons policies and industry standards.

Requirements

  • A post secondary degree or diploma in a related field or an acceptable combination of education and/or relevant experience and training.
  • Hold a professional Bicsi certification Registered Communications Distribution Designer (RCDD).
  • Minimum of 5 years of experience in infrastructure cabling design for new buildings and/or renovations to enhance and/or replace systems.
  • Experience in gathering business requirements, reviewing, and analyzing data, developing, and conceptualizing designs, contributing to Request for Proposal (RFP), Requests for Information (RFI), and Statements of Work (SOW).
  • Experience in providing professional advice and technical expertise to senior and executive level stakeholders, vendors, and external business partners and collaborators.
  • Knowledge of principles and methodologies associated with architecture and design in: architecture compliance review; IM/IT strategic roadmap development; IT capacity management; IT disaster recovery; system architecture and design; system quality assurance; business and system requirements analysis; technical documentation.
  • Knowledge and skills in such areas as: enterprise design, estimation and project management, financial management; IT procurement; risk assessment; and lifecycle management.
  • Experience with the review, interpretation, and implementation of: IM/IT Policy, IM/IT Blueprints, Information Technology Strategy, Information Sharing Agreements, as well as managing and tracking of major corporate IM/IT initiatives.
  • Knowledge of Bici Communications Distribution Designer theories, principles, practices, and methodologies to plan and manage the implementation of the cabling for building renovations and or new systems implementations.

Nice To Haves

  • Maintains knowledge of current products and evolving technologies relevant to communications such as DHCP; DNS; Load Balancers.
