About The Position

The University of Virginia's Student Financial Services (SFS) is seeking a detail-oriented and motivated Federal Work-Study (FWS) student to join their Enrollment Finance Team. This role provides hands-on experience in financial operations and supports the administration of the Federal Work-Study program. The assistant will review eligibility reports, manage payroll costing allocations, and support communication with departments and community partners. This position offers valuable professional skills in finance, data management, and cross-departmental communication while contributing to the success of fellow students and the UVA community.

Requirements

  • Must be eligible for a Federal Work-Study award that can be applied to this role.
  • Must be willing to work 5 in-person hours per week, with 3 hours scheduled on Mondays.
  • Strong computer skills, especially proficiency in Microsoft Excel (e.g., formulas, pivot tables, data organization)
  • Excellent customer service and time management skills
  • Ability to communicate and collaborate effectively with stakeholders
  • Self-motivated with the ability to work independently and take initiative
  • Strong oral and written communication skills
  • Dependable, punctual, and responsible
  • Well-organized and able to manage multiple tasks

  • Candidates must be work study eligible for further consideration by hiring manager.

Responsibilities

  • Review FWS eligibility reports and assist with tracking student awards.
  • Help manage payroll costing allocations by working with department managers to create or correct funding sources.
  • Assist with the Federal Work-Study Community Partner Program by helping review partner eligibility, track student placements, and support communication between UVA departments and off-campus organizations.
  • Support monthly reconciliations and financial reviews across for FWS funding.
  • Assist with organizing financial reports.
  • Collaborate with the Enrollment Finance Team to ensure accuracy and transparency in financial processes.
  • Aid the Enrollment Finance Team with record keeping, both physical and electronic documents.

  • One-credit internship reflection course (either UNST 3910: Self & Organizations or UNST 3920: Teams, Leadership, and Organizations) is required if selected.
