About The Position
We are seeking an experienced English as a English Second Language Coordinator to organize nonnative speaker courses with diverse activities and methods. The coordinator will oversee a cohort of ENL teachers to implement lesson plans that address the needs of individual students and align with Yalow’s CKLA curriculum. The coordinator will actively teach students.
Requirements
- Belief in Rosalyn Yalow’s Mission and Vision for all students
- Evidence of developing lesson plans aligned with New York State Common Core Standards
- Ability to identify students’ challenges and implement timely remediation plans
- Relentless drive to improve the minds, characters, and lives of students
- Willingness to accept feedback from school leaders and colleagues
- Demonstrated passion for working with k-8 students
- Prior experience in schools and/or urban communities is preferred.
Nice To Haves
- Dual certification in ESL or ENL, bilingual extension, or TESOL preferred
- A background in education is not required for new teachers
Responsibilities
- Oversight of testing administration under the supervision of the principal
- Oversight of ENL compliance reporting
- Oversight of lesson planning
- Oversight of individual student reports
- Oversight of assessment reports for Yalow board meetings
- Presentation at monthly board meetings, as requested
- Addressing learning needs of all ENL students
- Continuous communication with students, families, and colleagues about student outcomes
- Implementation of ENL curricula in alignment with Yalow’s CKLA curriculum
- Teaching a cohort of ENL students (roughly 90% of time allotted to teaching)
- Supervision and support of a small cohort of ENL teachers.
