About The Position

Global LT is hiring an English language teacher to provide customized, in-person lessons to a seven-year-old child in Lexington, South Carolina. The student is a complete beginner whose family is moving from Germany to South Carolina. Lessons are intended to begin in May and June while she is still attending school in Germany, then increase in frequency or intensity starting in July, before she begins third grade in August. The requested lesson frequency is twice per week, with each session lasting one hour. Availability is Mondays, Wednesdays, or Thursdays between 4:00 PM and 5:00 PM. The lesson location is near Birchwood Veterinary Hospital at 452 Old Cherokee Rd, Lexington, SC 29072. The preferred start date is ASAP, and the preferred lesson format is in person. The student’s learning goals include building vocabulary, learning about schools in the United States, practicing common phrases and conversations, understanding the culture of her new country, and developing writing, listening comprehension, and reading skills. She also wants to learn school-related vocabulary and how to make friends. Her interests include nature, animals, music, piano, singing, dancing, fantasy and school stories, board games, crafts, and Legos. The teacher will deliver engaging, tailored lessons; design curricula aligned with the student’s proficiency and objectives; track and assess progress; and communicate professionally to maintain a positive learning environment. Global LT describes the role as freelance work and offers teachers autonomy to create lesson plans and choose materials suited to their teaching style and students’ needs.

Requirements

Native or near-native proficiency in English, both written and spoken.
A degree or certification in language teaching, education, instructional design, linguistics, second-language acquisition, or a related field.
At least two years of language teaching experience.
