English Teacher [2026-27 school year]
About The Position
Newark Academy is seeking to hire an English Teacher for the 2026-27 school year to join a dedicated and dynamic faculty. The ideal candidate will possess experience teaching English, a strong passion for literature, writing, and media, and a proven ability to implement student-centered, skills-focused, and culturally competent teaching practices. This role offers the opportunity to teach essential skills such as textual analysis, written and verbal communication, and critical thinking and argumentation to highly engaged students. Fostering positive student/faculty relationships is key to inspiring students to excel in the English classroom and contribute to school publications and external writing opportunities. The position also encourages involvement in the wider school community through clubs, activities, and/or athletics.
Requirements
- Experience teaching English in middle school, upper school, or higher educational settings
- Bachelor’s degree is required
- Experience working with and supporting a diverse community of students, parents, and colleagues
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills (written and verbal)
Nice To Haves
- Professionals in industry or related fields or with non-traditional paths to education are also encouraged to apply.
- Master’s degree is preferred
- Experience working in independent schools is preferred but not required
- Candidates with experience in the International Baccalaureate (IB) are especially encouraged to apply
Responsibilities
- Create a positive, student-centered environment and work collegially with peers
- Prepare lessons to deliver to assigned classes, generally four sections
- Collaborate with colleagues to design and revise curriculum to create a consistent course experience across sections
- Meet school guidelines regarding grading, recordkeeping, and use of the learning management system to post timely information about classes
- Participate in school-wide activities such as workshops, special events, and professional meetings
