About The Position

The Knight School Teacher will provide support for students working with virtual courses or SOL remediation. Students are working to earn a high school diploma. Students will attend class Monday-Thursday at Lugo-McGinness Academy. The position hours are 3:45 PM to 6:45 PM.

Requirements

  • Graduation from an accredited college or university with a Bachelor’s Degree in an applicable field.
  • A valid Virginia Department of Education Teaching License or eligibility for a license is required.
  • Significant lifting, carrying, pushing, and/or pulling.
  • Frequent stooping, kneeling, crouching, and/or crawling.
  • Significant fine finger dexterity.
  • Working flexible hours.

Responsibilities

  • Facilitates the virtual learning (Edgenuity) instruction for students.
  • Instructs students in a program of studies that meets stated objectives and prepares students to master grade-level standards.
  • Works collaboratively with secondary teachers, administrators, parents, school and agency counselors, and related service providers in the overall educational plan for students enrolled at the Knight School.
  • Translates lesson plans into learning experiences to best utilize available time for instruction and actively engage students.
  • Fully supports and implements Social Emotional Learning, encouraging students to build self-awareness, self-management, and relationship skills.
  • Establishes and maintains standards of student behavior needed to achieve a functional learning atmosphere in the classroom by providing positive reinforcement of acceptable behaviors and modifying unacceptable behaviors.
  • Evaluates academic and social growth of students, prepares report cards, and keeps appropriate records to include attendance reports and other recordkeeping activities as necessary.
  • Communicates regularly with parents or guardians through conferences and other means to discuss student progress.
  • Participates in various student and parent activities.
  • Coordinates the development, implementation, and revision of the curriculum for alternative education with the LMA Administrator.
  • Performs any other related duties as assigned by the appropriate administrator.
  • Meets with parents to support student needs and interventions for academic support.
